.... yes I know it's been done to death, but bare with me.

I want a summer jacket. But I also want a waterproof summer jacket without a liner.

So is there available something like a Rally 2 (I like the big zipped openings and general quality) but with the goretex (or similar) membrane laminated to the inside face of the jacket? This is because I can't be bovvered with the hassle of a separate liner and all the faffing that entails... And ideally it would cost less than two hundred quid  .

Any recommendations?

In my experience Gortex is still too warm for the summer. For me it doesn't seem to breathe enough. I've tried The HG Gortes suits and they are pretty good, but just too warm.

I know that there is a new type of Gortex which is supposed to breathe 25% more. I think that it is Gortex XCR- butI could well be wrong.

My solution to the dilema was to by an airflow / mesh jacket (Revit provided with Knox armour http://www.bykebitz.co.uk/acatalog/C26-_Air_Jacket.html - although there are many others out there - alpinestars, HG etc), which is certainly cool enough for spain, but was then a little concerned that it might be too cool for the UK....... but when riding at the weekend it was absolutely superb.

If it is too cool (i.e. summer cool not autumn or spring) e.g. early mornings the I use an EDZ windprrof top - absolutely brilliant at keeping the wind out, and breathes (not sure how?). When it warms up - take it off roll it up, and put it in your pocket (this rolls up really really small)

If it rains then slip on a waterproof overjacket.

This isn't the all in one solution that you're looking for, and I'd be really interested if you do find that holy grail. but with a limited budget I opted to specialise. This way if any individual component doesn't match up to the task I can change it.

Hope this helps

Cheers

It's the zipped openings your going to have a problem with :(

Iv'e never found a jacket with water proofed air vents , as soon as the rain starts thats where you feel it first if you havent got your linners in :tears

However you don't have to zip the BM liner in , just put it on and zip it up and then your jacket over the top ....... it works for me :bounce1

I use it for my other light weight summer jacket ( just in case ) :Motomartin
