It may come down to choice, more 690's than SE's around and I've seen a very nice 690 with all the right rally raid gear ( protection, tanks, fairing etc...)
I think if I did not have the XC I'd be buying the 690 but I'm still thinking will it be a special enough change? ( because for all the logic owning bikes is an emotional thing)
I suppose what I want to hear is a 690 on road is as good or better than a XC and off road you think you're riding a bike 25% lighter/smaller
