Super Ten arrives Sunday

Get the front of the engine ACF'd as well as the spokes . Mine will be at 2 years old shortly has pitted spokes and has already had a replacement front water pipe (runs under the exhaust headers) replaced due to corrosion, the replacement is already loosing its coating (after about 900miles). The spokes and water pipe are up for a warrently check/replacement , just waiting to hear back.
Note I hadnt used mine when the roads were salted and had coated the bike with ACF but maybe the engine heat and regular wet rides have washed it off :/ .
That all said its a lot more corrosion resistant than my old GS1150Adv was..

Dave what do you think of the panniers/topbox i'm using soft luggage at the moment but am finding it a pain in the arse clipping it on/off after a night shift at work when i'm not at my best. I've been looking at TTzegas as i had these on my gs but would prefer to spend less. Have you had trouble with the locks being stiff, potentially bending keys etc how sturdy do they seem once mounted?
The standard yamaha boxes and the TT's are the only boxes i actually like so they are my 2 options.

My pannier locks aren't stiff , though the dealer's demo bike's are, it maybe down to individual panniers tolerances (as they are mostly placcy) . I find mine are finickety due to the lock have 3 positions , left to unlatch and right to open , middle to lock with the middle spot being the tricky one to find if your a bit hamfisted. Overall they arent Jesses but they are narrow when mounted so dont impair lane splitting too much though you still need to remember they are on. If you want big capacity then they probably arent for you.

Cheers iainmac. It was the width that attracted me, i tend to travel light so massive capacity does'nt bother me but i'm not a fan of finicky things so the locks sound as if i'd find em annoying. The only boxes that look good and come close i think are the tt 31/38 combo.

Have you seen the SW Trax?

I really like them, not sure of all the available sizes, but even a 37 / 45 combo is not very wide, more here

I got a rather good fender extender off E-Bay for under £15 delivered, it looks well made and does not look out of place.

Also throw ACF at it regularly to help it out, but have to except this area is in line of fire for all road crap and will probably look secondhand sooner or later.

Yeah not too keen, for roughly the same money as you paid i can get the zegas with stainless frames which from experience is a good thing, powder coated or painted frames can look rough after a couple of winters. But each to their own, the trax just dont do it for me.

I also looked at alternative systems but as I'd only be using them in-frequently and managing to get them included in the deal I thought it not worth the considerable extra cost of any other system.
As to the panniers themselves I have only been out on my first run today but kept the panniers on, they are obviously not going to be as strong as any galvanised metal system but that's reflected in the cost. The key system is a little fiddly and if they do become stiff they would be a pain, but mine seem fine at present only time will tell. Hope this is of some help. :thumb

Summer use only :thumb2 If looking to use them all the time I would not have got the black ones.

Then again I expect panniers to have the odd mark after a while, not something I buy to enhance to looks of a machine, their primary purpose is to carry my crap around Europe once a year and manage the odd long weekend away.

My old zegas were on year round as it's my main transport, cant stand sitting in cars unless i have to, i was repainting the steel frames every year. Hate to see rust anywhere bit of a tart like that:thumb

Went for another ride today and came across a pilion problem with the top-box. It`s the first time that the wife has been on a motorcycle for 29 years and as we`re hopefully planning to travel to Spain next year I wanted to make sure that she`s comfortable on the back. When we got to our first stop she immediatly complained that the top-box hinges were digging into her back over every bump, proving to be quite painful, this was temporarly cured by tying a jumper around the top-box. This does not boad well for our Spanish trip.
When I got back I began to make enquires as to a top-box pad similar to the vario type, but apparently there is not one available.
This I find in-excusable for what is designed as a two-up long distance motorcycle, unless that is anyone out there has had the same problem and has found a solution.

Annoying i know dave, i dont reckon the s10 was designed as a 2 up tourer in my opinion, other than changing to a different box or large rollbag your best best is going to be modifying a back pad meant for another box. Heres a couple of options after looking at motorworks they're about halfway down each page. http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=30&Ct=UA&SbCt=BA_15_30_UA_75&spPage=3 http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=30&Ct=UA&SbCt=BA_15_30_UA_70

Wth the GS my Mrs found the top box would keep whacking her in the back, the back rest stopped this as it bridged the gap to where she sat so she was permanently pressed against it.

The Tenere has a bit less room than the GS for the passenger, I only noticed this after fitting the SW gear, we have got the back-rest so nothing digs in but find there is less room for either of us to move around than there was on the GS.

On the plus side it works better on the twisties, but on very long motorway sections I would prefer a bit more room.

We did manage 170 miles in pissing rain with just one stop after picking up the luggage so I am sure we can manage with the setup.

I think you just need to find something to stick on the box - or if desperate remove the box for the tour and strap a bag to the rear rack - better than a week of nagging :thumb

Thanks for the links Illustratedman, I'm going to see if I can't cobble together some sort of alternative :thumb
