hi
im new to this forum
have had 1150 gs since 2001
after 6000mile service surging started
usual crap from dealer - "they all do that"
is there a cure for this my dealer did suggest removing the square yellow gizmo in the fuse box to richen the mixture, this doesnt appear to have made a great difference

any ideas?

thanks

welcome to the site - what took you so long!?

did you reset the motronic after you removed the little yellow thing?
fuse 5 (red?) out for 20 seconds,
replace fuse 5
turn on ignition but don't start engine.
twist throttle fully open then closed twice.
motronic now reset.
start engine.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but a guy I know with an 1150 RT replaced the little 'gizmo' with the Canadian standard BMW item and hey presto, the surging was gone. Something to do with the different emissions laws for each country. I think he said it was about £30 but don't quote me on that. I assume it would be the same for the GS.

Alternatively there is the Y piece, K&N, Techlusion etc, etc route :D

it seems they forgot to tell me this
how can i now rectify the situation
can i now carry out the operation as you describe?
thanks

yes - removing the thing (which is your cat code plug) will do nothing at all unless you reset the motronic. if you decide to do the above procedure you should definately notice a difference.

by the way, i'm assuming your still running the catalytic converter? the CCP is installed in your machine specifically to control the fuelling for this - so i don't know what effect its removal will have on your cat - and take no responsibilty if it doesn't like it! (most people get rid of the CCP at the same time as dumping their catalyzers).

do a search on 'cat code plug' or 'surging' and you'll find tons of information - and prepare to become confused!
