Should have expected this.
Why is the standard response on here to "throw money at it"?
If I could afford to "throw money at it" I wouldn't have asked where to get refurbed would I?

If you can borrow a shock for a while, ABE in Grenwich will refururb a standard shock for around £100

David Brook of Brook Suspension does a rebuild for around £100 too. In Yorkshire I think but search for him on Ebay then give him a call.

I did throw money at mine - because at the time i had money to throw and the group discount was irresistible. If I had to do the same again now - I'd have the original rebuilt. without a moments hesitation - I've read in several places that its seldom that the spring needs replacing - just a valve brazing on and the body refilled. Once you have that done the shock should last for years with further rebuilds as necessary.

Not sure what bike we are talking about here. But Firefox, or anyone else I should imagine, can't rebuild the standard 1150 GS front shock. Its a very basic affair. They did my rear shock for around £100.
I managed to pick up a front shock off here that had very little mileage on it. Once installed the bike sat a lot higher at the front. So the front does wear.

I got a set of wilbers a little while back. Whilst I'm happy with them now, I find that I prefare them set with more preload and a little more rebound damping than they suggested. Very happy with mine. Made all the difference.

Had two rear shocks on my 1150 GS rebuilt by MCT in Stowmarket - posted to them and came back in a couple of days, each time been pleased with the service. When I replaced the front was surprised at the price new from BMW - think was around £124 a couple of years ago.
