Suzuki Dr250 S restore......

from sad and sorry looking.. the little DR is starting to look a little better these days..

this was her to start with... a field bike for a few years.. then dumped in a warehouse..

the tank was like an onion

so time to strip... sandblast... and powdercoat

little bit of glass bead polishing

time to take the old spokes off... this involved a load of swearing..

prep and paint all the parts... using simoniz tough black.. and laquer

I wanted to use as many original parts as possible.. so time to do some bodywork

many cleaning hours (months) later...time to reassemble...

wheels back from being re-spoked.. and add on new exhaust.

few bits left to do.. but now she is looking like a real bike again

Your DR is looking great. I am also renovating one, a 1985 model.
Mine was worse than yours to start with

but I have done a lot of work on it to get it to where it is now.

Obviously not as far on as you as I will need to get sandblasting and repainting/coating done at some point, but on a slim budget.

that DR of yours is looking great... compared to how she started... very nice job on the tank!!

I am on a slim budget also.. the biggest expenses so far were the wheels.. which were fecked.. tyres, spokes, rims.. the lot
got suzuki spokes for the rear tyre from http://www.cmsnl.com/
but the fronts couldnt be found..!! so had central wheel make them up...

and the poxy exhaust was rotten thru and thru.. that stung.. 270 euro for a new one..stainless steel.. couldnt find a decent 2nd hand one..
got that from this lot http://www.smebike.com/

I was using www.motorsloop.com for most of the other parts.. very cheap 2nd hand parts and postage..

I also use CMSNL and http://www.classicsuzukiparts.nl/ (both also in holland) and US Ebay - as a bonus note (you probably know already) the DR250 and SP250 are just about the same bike with a few minor differences

I also forgot to mention that the DR125 and DR250 share a lot of parts, so more than you think is avaialble from places like Robinsons Foundry and Crooks Classic Parts

How you getting on? finished yet?
I started to strip mine down and found the frame was twisted - why didn't I see that before! Too expensive to get straightened, but luckily came across a frame with v5 (had no V5 for my original). So I now have that. With Xmas coming it's all on hold until I get paid in Jan .. then will get it all stripped and will get frame, swingarm etc blasted and painted.
Hopefully will have it on the road for next spring/early summer!

hey.. yeah I did another bit in the last while, found that I could get "Massey Ferguson red " aerosol paint meant for tractor restoration...from the radionics website... finishes with a tough lacquer finish... needs a good polish but looks really nice .

so did the tank.. a lot of swearing involved there.. even the dogs got called utter total bastards a few times... but apart from grip.. and tail light she is done..

have original style graphics en route.. they have been tough to find.. but they will go on last.. and then sell her on.. next project please....
