SW France - Cahors - nice twisty roads for runs out

Hi all,
This is not an area I know at all but a mate of mine is lookin' at arranging a few days in SW France based outside Cahors and I am looking for interesting roads (twisty, up and down but tarmac for the sports bikes with us) for day runs from Cahors as a base point. All ideas welcome, GPS/Autoroute files too, photos of what the views are like would be good too. Don't want much

D911 all the way to Rodez and then into the Cevennes National Parc...pick any route.

Or

D911-D1-D994 to Millau and then into the Park.


You'll keep going back.

If you go to the north of the Park you could also head for Mende..the roads are awesome.

If you do Millau then it would be crazy not to do the Gorge du Tarn, it begins minutes away and is really superb. I can give a Mapsource route if anyone wants one following the Gorge du Tarn from Millau and back on the Gorge du Jonte.

Make sure that you take the deviation to the Point Sublime along the Tarn Gorge - brilliant views. Stop along the Gorge du Jonte and see the vultures circuling high above you (view point well sign posted). If you are looking for a hotel in the area, Le Rozier is a great wee village. This hotel is great with secure parking. Finally the 'Millau bridge'. Stop at the 'Motorway Services' to the south of the bridge for photos then enjoy the ride across it. Interesting in a bit of canoeing - Roc et Canyon is a great Millau-based company which can let you do easy to v difficult canoeing trips - brilliant.

The thing about Cahors is that you can ride an hour or two in any direction and find fantastic roads and places to see. I know as I am only an hour NW of the place.

among other destinations - in 2005 we went to "do" the Millau Bridge.

didn't seem to matter WHERE we went in the entire time we were there....

EVERYwhere was good!
good roads, scenery, hotels, food, people.
spent so much of the time just going...."wow!"

definitely going back - didn't investigate enough. not enough time.

Agreed - Gorge du Tarn is a must if you are in the area.

I often stay in a small village called St. Sozy, about 20 mins south of Brive and 10 mins east of Souiliac. The run down to Millau and Tarn from there is a great day out on a nice variety of roads. There are plenty of brilliant roads all around this area and lots to see. In fact, if your there at Easter time, I'll buy you a drink!
