Hi everyone. I've fitted a SW Motech QUICK-LOCK EVO Electric Engage tank bag (that's a mouthful). Really happy with it as its just to carry my phone while it charges and plays music etc through the Bluetooth headset, and wallet, passport etc. My question is that it is straight into the battery as per instructions but is powered all the time (i.e even without the key in the ignition). I would've thought that it would not draw power until the ignition is switched on. Is this right?

If it is, I suppose that I'll be looking at a PDM as having to remove the tank bag at every stop is a bit of a drag so that I don't run the battery down.

Any help really appreciated.

If it is connected direct to the battery then it will be live while connected. However, if you are only charging your phone etc then it is not going to impact on your battery during stops - I would not worry. If the battery is fully charged after the run to the stop, it will not run down charging your phone while you grab a drink. After all, the phone should also be fully charged so wont take much - if you dont take your phone with you off the bike.

If you want it switched then fit a DIN plug to the lead that fits on the battery and use the accessory socket. Alternatively, wire to the back of the accessory socket for a more permanant fit.

Nothing really to worry about whichever way you choose.

Indeed as mentioned above, the tank bag will be live all the time it's mounted. I thought the idea of such a bag was that's it's easy to unclip it and walk away with your valuables when you stop?

40-50 mins of phone charging is nothing. Look at the size of a phone battery against a bike battery.

By the way I do like this bags.

Me too, bought one off here recently and just used it for a trip. Our Lass wanted to take her DSLR camera but if it was packed in the panniers it would be a pain to get out . Probability was that she wouldn't bother and as a result miss some good shots. This was ideal, just big enough for her camera, an extra lens and a couple of filters. So whenever she saw something she wanted to stop for it was a simple case of unclip from the fuel filler ring and just hand her the bag. Worked really well for us.
