was looking at buying a set of SW Motech crash bars for my 02 r1150gs but there seems to be different variations and details of fitting on the web sites I've visited. Has anyone out there recently purchased a set & are they ok to fit?

im ordering a set of these in the next few days also mate. Which bit are you getting stuck on?

Looked on the 'get geared' website and the link for fitting instructions appeared to be for a different model.... the schematic showed a different configuration for the exhaust (not sure which model)

cheers

ah right.

well i just ordered mine from motorworks. There are cheaper places ... in the region of £20 but i think as they helped me out with some bits and bobs its only fair to repay the favour :) Price from motorworks was just over £150

i dont think getgeared will be too fussed about putting up specific stuff for the gs though... i presume it would just be a generic link showing how they fit to some one type of model to give you an idea. Good price from them though. *damnit* haha

I've got a set fitted on my 1150, if you need any photos let me know. I had no probs fitting mine and they saved me when I dropped the fully loaded bike in a car park!!

compared?

Can you tell me what made you go for the Motech bars? I am looking at getting some for my GS12 and doing homework at the moment. Opinion seems divided as to what is best. Thanks - Hugo

Hi Hugo,
read a few reviews on this site and opinions do vary, motech's seem to be a good option for the price and offering adequate protection (really looking for some sdded protection should my bike topple over), I did see the touratech ones at the Bike Show and was impressed, although they were about £100 more.

fixing points?

Davycov

Thanks. Looking at the different posts it seems that the TT & Motech have some fixing points to the engine casing vs the H&B which is totally fixed to the bike frame. Is that your understading too?

Cheers - Hugo

fixing

I think you're right Hugo...... it seems like the H & B do fit differently . compared to the TT & Motech's. After reading the threads myself each model seems to have some good & bad points eg access for servicing, fixing points etc. Reports on Motech's seem positive for ease of fixing and effectiveness.
