Swapping cast wheels for spoked

hjello all on this fine and sunny morning,

looking for some advice,
ive a 07 plate gs1200 with cast wheels, and have recenlty started to do a fair bit of green laning with it, nothing serious, just trying to keep up with a mate on a ktm 450exc and failing miserably

Have been thinking about swapping the cast wheels for spoked ones to put up with the added stress and starin put on the wheels when crashing abotu off road, and dealing with the massive ptholes in the roads near me,
is it worth the change?

and how much would it cost for a set of spokes wheels from the dealer?

stupidly didnt get the cast wheels put on when i bought the thing,

A pair of spoked wheels without wheel bearings or disks (front wheel) will set you back a mere £1000. Yes thats right, a grand. You also need different rear wheel bolts for the spoked rear wheel due to the thread length. I'd also love spokes but when I got my bike in 2004 (as ex-demo) there were none available due to a 6 month waiting list for the 'new' 1200 bikes.

My neighbour bought a Honda XR400 trail bike in tidy condition last month for £1200. It's a kickstart only bike but for the money it's a lot cheaper than a Suzuki DRZ400, and cheap to run at £33 road tax and £100 insurance.

If I were you, I would keep the alloys and fit TKC80 tyres for green laning in the dry, then buy a cheap 'Pogo' bike for the tougher days off road. Thats my plan once I get another job and have some money to buy them.

I saw a set of spokes with disks for an R1200GS last week on Ebay go for £815 so they aren't even cheap used.

Alloys to spokes

Managed to pick mine up for £500 on ebay....so it looks like you can pay a wide range, but theres always another set around the corner. But you do need different rear hub bolts, and I had to get shorter front disc bolts as well.

Looking back though, my alloys took me over some rock stuff in the Atlas and survived ok.
