Swapping Wheels

I've got an 08GSA on order arriving shortly, but don't care much fr the wire wheels.

Asked if I could order it with the ally wheels frm the GS, but was told by the dealer that they will not fit as they wheels are different sizes??

Little surprised as I tought the bikes were ostensibly the same...

So does anyone know if this mod can be done?

The BMW Motorrad site lists both the 1200gs and the GSA as having the following spec rims:-

Front 2.50 x 19"
Rear 4.00 x 17"

There are a number of members who have swapped alloys for spoked wheels on the standard 1200GS. Unless the specs have changed for 2008 I can't see there would be a problem.

The wheels are exactly the same size and specification (well except one is cast and the other spoked) and are interchangeable.

The only thing you need that is different is the rear wheel bolts, the GSA ones are longer than the GS.

Thing is though you cannot spec a GSA with GS wheels, if you want to swap them you'll need to find a co-operative GS owner.

Ahh well they are just the wheels from a 2004 -2007 model with the tyre pressure sensors and discs from the 08 fitted custom and painted by a member of this parish who knows his trade in satin black, but apparently they won't fit according to some dealers.
