Reassuringly today is news that ...

The UK government has signed a deal to secure up to 90 million doses of H1N1 flu (swine flu) vaccine by December.

Health Secretary Alan Johnson said Baxter and GlaxoSmithKline will begin production as soon as possible.

So we can expect Govt news spin that everyone in UK shall be protected with a mass immunisation programme.. but,

Worryingly is the simple fact that ...

Our UK Population is 60.75 million and made up by
Scotland with 5 million
Wales with 3 million
England with 51 million
N I with 1.75 million

So what does the Broon Govt want with a spare 30 million doses :nenau
or is this the unofficial number of failed asylum seekers, Eu working visitors, overseas student visa's in the UK :mmmm

Hit Merthyr Tydfil, big time now. Surpassed all the other outbreaks in Wales. No more testing patients, just treatment.

Sick notes in Merthyr are made for Sustainable Forests Only. :augie

There's a school very close to where my Stepdaughter goes to (within sight in fact) that has 6 cases confirmed........there's a big worry 'cos a lot of the kids at Lottie's school have severe disabilities and various illnesses/genetic stuff going on that put these particular kids at a lot of risk from it

A worrying time for some parents :(

school next door to us have it (1 case confirmed couple suspected)

Nice

durty bastads....

I understand that the Phase Status has changed to management, that means that they no longer test (swob) for Swine Flu but will diagnose over the phone and if individuals have flu like sysmptoms they will be given Tami Flu if the need arises/.Those cases on your map are not accurate, i work in conjuction with the PCT Primary Care Trusts and the Social Services and they dont even have the correct figures. Estimated Possible infected in the North West is near 3000, i was told this by a reliable source in the NHS. I know that one of my staff has swine flu as i had to go and collect his Tami Flu on his behalf from the local NHS Distributer. From what i see this virus is no different from normal/ seasonal Influenza and is nothing to realy worry about. unless it changes/ mutates and we get zombies in the street if so i recomend a good book "how to survive a zombie attack" . very entertaining...

Predictions are that the real effect will be felt in the late autumn as the spread rate will increase significantly then.
Jonny wave is correct with regard to the Tamiflu being given when needed, usually to those with underlying medical conditions.
For those showing flu like symptoms without other conditions, antibiotics ( which are no use against a viral illness ) are being offered to counter possible secondary infections.
The restriction on the issuing of Tamiflu is due to stock levels.
However, it has been mentioned that a vaccine for the condition will be available in the very near future.
The question is ? . . . .Who is given it first ? :eek

Quite a few cases down here ,people quite ill ,a real Faff to sort out as we have to fax a requesition order to the town hall for Tamiflu if its considered necessary .Looks like its going to be a much bigger thing than first thought:eek:
