I'm not a 1200 owner, so there may be a better place, but If I was fitting some lights to a 12 for someone and wanted a switched live, I'd go to the accessory socket and piggy back off that.
Or the provided as standard GPS power outlet (up near the headstock), depending on where you want to be in the bike with this power source.
Just remember you might need some jump leads as well if you are using this to power something while the bike is off .....this is why the accessory sockets normally switch off when the engine is not running.
I assume you don't want to draw much current, otherwise your battery will die, so maybe the simplest thing is to connect from a switched positive, e.g the +ve side of the rear light, to he battery +ve.
When ignition on there will be no voltage between these points so your circuit will be off. When ignition off your circuit is powered from the battery to ground via the bulb.
I used to do this to power flashing LEDs when I used to think it made any difference to look like I had an alarm.
