Ok clever folk. Looking for your advice once again. Both my wife and I own System 6 helmets and wish to fit bike to bike comms without shelling out for the official BMW kit. Have looked at SENA SMH10, CARDO SCALA RIDER G4,and others in that kind of price bracket. My concern is that because of where the slider control for the sun visor is located, the boom mikes won't fit/ be long enough without the purchase of additional items. Anyone out there fitted comms to their System 6 without problems, please let me know what you went for. I am leaning towards the SENA unit but it's a lot of money without forking out for extras.
Thanks :nenau

Hi Nutter,

I asked the same (kind of) thing in a previous thread......

Hi, I'm looking at getting a Sena SMH -10 BT set but can't see that the mic boom will be long enough to work on a system 6 helmet. I've asked Sena who've pointed me towards a A0302 accessory kit (which has to be bought separately of course …) but the pics aren't that clear. It looks as if this comes with a wired mic – no good for a flip up lid, obviously – and a boom mic with an extension cable. They won't confirm that this is the case and I'm wondering if anyone has used this combination or has found a way to fit the standard kit to the helmet.

Any help greatly appreciated.

.....with no response so I guess nobody's tried it. My local dealer reckons the boom mic fits if you use the Interphone rig, but only if you use the glue-on holder. There is an optional mic set that goes onto the Sena but you have to pay an extra £44 for it. I'd be interested to see what you come up with - I'm just buying the helmet now so am a few steps behind you.

I use a System 6, with Cardo Scala fitted, via glue mount.
it works a treat and using the sun visor slider is not a problem :)

Hi and thanks for the advice. Billywhizz, I too have spoken to Sena who also recommended this extra item to make it work on the System 6. I have looked at this item and it is a wired mic that then feeds into a boom, that way you have a wire going into the helmet just like the earpiece wires, and you feed the boom through the inside of the helmet. This alone would free up the sun visor operation. But it cost $49 in the US of A so why does it cost so much more here? I love how companies seem to have their own 'exchange rate.

Thomo57, thanks for the piccies, they truly help. Unfortunately I was looking at the Cardo G4 which is a much bigger unit and I believe it will get in the way. That said, I am interest in what model it is you have fitted. What features does it have, although to be honest, I'm not bothered about making phonecalls on the move although wired music would be nice. Also how well does it work?
Thanks

I use the Cardo Scala Solo, paired to TomTom Urban & phone.
It works well, audio is clear, volume good and battery life is very good - used on a long ride down to French Alps, lasted from 4am until 10pm, minus 2hrs on ferry

Cheers Thomo57,
I went to my trusted Motorrad dealer yesterday and asked if the Scala Rider G4 would fit as there are some going extremely cheap on a certain auction site. He not only assured me that it would (as he had fitted many for his customers) he then went on to show me how it fitted by going to the trouble of getting one out of the box and demonstrating. You have to use the glue plate and it has to be positioned right at the end of the slider for the sun visor. There is just enough length and the mic sits slightly to the left side of the mouth but am assured it will work. Great service! Anyway, one is ordered and on it's way so I'll post piccies as soon as I've fitted them.

Great service, my dealer told me that only the Interphone kit was suitable because it had a longer mic - just shows how these rumours start! Be good to know how you get on with the G4.

Now fitted and first impressions are good. Still getting used to it, but the volume is great especially the way it increases with speed. Although the mic is off to one side there are no issues. The radio volume is plenty loud enough although the signal strength could be better. I've not tried it at high speed yet so once I have I'll post again (this time with piccies).:bounce1

Thanks, just off to buy the helmet this weekend. Cheers for the info'.....

Have the Sena SMH-10 installed on a Schuberth C3 which has the same sun visor slider in the same positon. Can't use the clamp on the Schuberth's so have used the sticky pad option and it is placed right up against the back of the slider.

Boom microphone just long enough to reach to the side of my mouth and on trial this week has proved acceptable at motorway speeds.

Interphone F4 was fine but Scala is both longer than the rest and has the longest boom microphone, I would imagine this would be plenty long enough but it is huuuuuuuuuugggggggggeeeeeeee!

As promised, a few piccies to show how it looks. It works really well and once you get used to it's location near the sun visor slider, it doesn't cause an issue. We find we have to shout a bit to activate it but that may well be down to the fact it's not at the front of the mouth.

Hi
You would be correct, it would work better if in front of the Mouth, you will get used to it after a while, you can also open the intercom by pressing the A button once and will remain open until you press again to close it.

Richard
