I need some help with a pair of old system panniers please. Both locks need decoding – one pannier opened, the other locked closed and requires raking.
Is anyone able to recommend someone who may be able to help – ideally somewhere near to Banbury or Dunstable/Hemel.

Thanks:thumb

Interesting link but not really what I'm after. I'd like to decode both locks but have an issue in that one of the panniers is locked closed so needs to be picked before it can be decoded - ebay purchase after my exhaust decided to melt my original pannier.

Due to lack of time and being away from home all the time what I'm really after is someone who has some experience of working with system panniers who may be able to help.

Any takers:thumb2

Did you buy them as a pair? If so they'll likely have the same key. You can remove the lock barrel from the open one and get a key made...

Nope - not a matching pair Mike. Bought a complete set of used panniers from the site many years ago - melted one pannier a couple of years and bought a used locked replacement from Ebay with no keys. This then sat in my spare room until last night when I attempted to pick the lock without success.

Required tasks:

Pick lock on new replacement locked pannier
Remove both barrels
Re-code to ignition key on both panniers

Should be easy but I'm struggling due to lack of time and ability!

You seem to need the services of a lock smith, then. I don't imagine it would take an expert very long to defeat a pannier lock. So (assuming you take the job to him) it shouldn't cost much.

Pop the locked one down to your local locksmith, these aren't difficult for a professional to pick. From then on it's easy and there are plenty of internet guides available. I can do everything except the lock picking, but that's not much help to you as you don't live in my neighbourhood...

Mike

can you not drill the lock then the pins collapse and should open not done it on a bwm case done it on my old givi v46 case when I broke a key in it just don't drill too deep ie into the case use a small drill 3 or 4 mm then step up to 6 etc until the bugger fails and falls apart

then buy a lock kit

Take the box to a locksmith. When I locked myself out of the house, it took the guy I called less than 30s to pick the Yale lock on the front door. When I remarked that it seemed rather rapid, he replied "oh, that was a tricky one and took a while".

If it's any help I've got a spare right hand (non exhaust) side pannier you can have.
The lock has been removed already so you can fit whatever barrel you like, it's otherwise complete and everything works fine so you can use it for spares.
It has one fault, one of the hanging lugs has been broken off so you'd need to use your existing back but at least there's plenty of spare bits if you break anything on your own pannier.
Free if collected, just off J6 M5.

That's a very kind offer but sadly my pannier woes are the exhaust side - thanks anyway though.

Still working on opening the locked pannier - thanks for all the helpful advice. Especially the PMs :thumb
