How and why have I missed this?

What a superb bit of free software.

I've been using it on an experimental basis for a couple of weeks and just found out today that I can use my Apple TV as an exit node, even when it's off!!!

While I've got Wireguard as a VPN on my UniFi router - tailscale takes this to another level where I can even advertise the subnet and connect to local devices that you can't install tailscale on....

Now looking into Mulvad VPN as well so I can geo spoof as required....

This is a game changer.

I’ve not played with Tailscale yet, but I have seen there is a plugin for OPNsense to add tailscale functionality to it.

I’ll look into it when I’m next bored & looking for something else to teach myself.
WireGuard is serving my needs well enough too for the time being :thumb

VPN on steroids, connects a bunch of your devices together and you can select which ones are exit nodes (so you can choose which network your devices 'pop out' of.

Stick one in a different country or in your van and you can choose to pop out in any network in any place where any of your devices are.

The really clever bit is that I can not only connect to my van's SIM based internet router, but I can also have it advertise it's subnet which means I can remote into the CCTV or any other device on the network - even if I can't install tailscale on it.

So, I can connect to everything as if I was there, even if I'm not.

I've connected mobile phones, tablets, laptops, AppleTV, Home Assistant, LTE router, and Raspberry Pis directly to it. Indirectly I can remotely connect to my PiHole and...

...and I've only just scratched the surface.

Not often I get this excited about tech, but this is awesome.

Friend of mine was suggesting, just last week, to install it on a pi at home in Italy, to have remote access.
Haven't looked into it, also my knowledge around this is fairly basic and I generally do more damage than anything :D .

I'll have a look, but for my vpn/access usage (and for watching porn without authentication) I'mma put another Unifi gateway down there as it will be faster/more bulletproof.

Thanks.
I will definitely have a go.

I also need to have access to my father's LAN in Rome, so I can access the printer there easily and control a few things directly.
Might be cheaper than buying a Gateway for there.

Yup.

cheap Raspberry Pi if there's nothing else there that's 'permanently on' that you can stick tailscale on and you're in.

That's now made me set myself the challenge of seeing if I can print to my home printer from anywhere in the world (I don't see many situations in which this would actually be useful but...)

That’s not much of a challenge. I printed off some rams at home when I was in Mauritius. Modern printers have their own E mail address, at least mine does.

Mine doesn't, and while it might not be the biggest challenge, it's just something I've never done before.

I'm still pointlessly excited about being able to change the config of my van's cellular router and view everything on it's subnet remotely (e.g. all the Victron monitoring, battery SOC, CCTV....)

Still learning what it can do for me, but so far it's just a question of my imagination being the limiting factor.
