Need a tank bag for the RT and as I think the BMW one is a bit big, I decided to go for the SW Motech "Engage" with Evo tank ring.
Have to be honest, a bit more expensive than I expected, but thought OK - lets go for it.
Went through Winding Roads, who were very helpful, but they said that they hadn't supplied one for an RT before and contacted the importer.
All parts arrived after about 3 weeks and looked really nice quality, however upon fitting the tank ring, I found that the connector block fouled the tank rails and would soon mark them - the whole point of this type of connection is that it doesn't touch the tank!

Spoke to Winding Roads and following their request, sent them loads of photos showing the problem - 5 days later, I had to contact them again to see if they had heard from SW Motech, the reply being that they had not had this problem before and could I confirm my bike model .....

YES, I have a 2010 R1200RT SE - no mods to any part of the tank or rails!!!

Now waiting for an answer. :blagblah

Question is, am I expecting too much? Surely it should fit without fouling the rails as they state!

Think I should have stuck with buying a BMW one!

Any suggestions folks? :augie

Get your money back and buy the BMW one and enjoy... I think you are making things hard for yourself. The Beemer one isn't too big: once you're one the bike it doesn't obstruct at all. Also it has a zip that alters the size, has the proper fittings etc etc. you know it makes sense.

I have a small SW Motech bag which fits perfectly on the RT with the help of a spacer which I either had or came in their kit.

Thanks, but the problem is not with the tankbag fouling the rails - this comes with a spacer block that lifts it higher up.

The problem is with the tankbag locking ring which hits the rails when pushed onto the tank ring - this means that either the tank ring is too low with the spacers fitted that they supplied, or the tankbag locking ring is too wide to fit in between the rails.

I think that the tank ring is too low personally.

I'm with you. I had the BMW one and only over used it once. It's far too big and cumbersome.
I got a free one with my GSA & I'm guessing that will never get used for the same reason.

Contacted by Winding Roads yesterday - they had been on to SW Motech who have checked all the part numbers etc and cannot come up with a reason for the poor fit.

They offered me longer pacers (only 1mm longer :eek) that wouldn't in my opinion make any difference, or a full refund (to their credit as there was no question about about it being the bike or myself at fault!)

I have decided to return the bag and lock ring although I do like the design, size and quality, and bite the bullet and get a BMW item. :101

Not really - the problem is that the tank ring shown here is the old type. The new "Evo" tankring sits a lot flatter - that's where part of the problem is.
SW Motech were happy with the photos I supplied showing the problem - they just couldn't understand why they haven't come across it before.

Purchased a new BMW tankbag on fleabay yesterday, so hope I wont regret it.

Thanks anyway :beerjug:
