Can anyone recommend a tank bag for the 12GS? I looked into the Wolfman Explorer but was told by a reputable vendor here in the US that I should hold off till they upgrade the straps. I guess it works on a 12GS(designed for earlier GS's) but not great. I considering the BMW bag just because it fits well but it's near $300US but I'd rather have it fit well on a long trip rather than a cheaper bag that I have to mess with all the time. Thanks.

Tank Bag

Do a search on Famsa
Caveman was importing and selling for £70
Great bags for the money

Touratech

I got a Touratech expanding one, it comes with a zip for the headstock end and a velcro patch for the back. The zipper is held on the bike with two steel clips on some bit of the frame and then a sticky backed velcro pad hold the zip on the tank. The rear velcro pad is strapped on under the front seat and another sticky backed velcro pad holds it up the tank. Kinda works like a tank pad to stop scratches from buckles and the like at the same time. It also has a flat map pack about A4 in size. A handy elastic bit on the side to hold your gloves in when fuelling, and three little pockets on the outside and it'll convert to a rucksack with the supplied straps.

As above:Touratech - Very happy with it. I've the small one which is quite adequate for the valuable stuff that I want to keep with me. Map thingy on top works well. Underside of bag is properly shaped to match tank and made of shiny material that 'adheres' to the plastic of the 'tank' trim to stop it moving around. Buy from Germany if you can...

Thanks all. The Famsa looks interesting but couldn't find out much about it. Schtum is prolly correct though I'd have better luck digging through Advrider's archives for my part of the world.

I've got a Famsa which I bought from Caveman. Excellent piece of kit and was used on a recent 3500 mile trip around France and Spain with no problems.

Great service from Paul - can't recommend him highly enough.

Here

Also bought SW Motech crash bars from him - again a great piece of kit!

Yep

Famsa for me as well! bit of a game at petrol stations at first, but all ok now!

Famsa bag - how does it fix?

Does the Famsa base unit fit with clips on the front and rear of the tank (so when it is removed there is nothing left stuck in place)? I'm not too keen on sticking bits to the tank a la BMW/TT as I don't think I'll keep the bag in place all the time.

Thanks

Famsa

Yes - two clips for the book holder bracket in fron of the battery and under the seat

Forward fastening is round headstock

Bag zips to the base and the whole lot takes 2 minutes to fix in place
