Due to a server mishap (I think) I'm fairly sure that a message I posted yesterday evening got wiped, so here goes again...........

Can anyone tell me if the GS ever shipped WITHOUT "1150GS" decals on the tank, or would this, as I suspect, suggest that the tank has been replaced/ resprayed? I'm thinking of '99 or '00 year models specifically.

Not neccessarily Paul, they could have been removed by an owner (it's only a question of warming them with a hotair gun or a hair-dryer and peeling them off).

It is??

My decals are under a thick layer of lacquer.

I suspect it's more a case of Nitromors than a hair drier or dryer, if you prefer).

Depends on the paint finish.

Sorry to uspset you over the spelling Dickie (but I assumed that your 'varsity' education may have taught you that dryer is a perfectly acceptable variation in common English usage)!

Regardless of how or why decals could be removed I would be suspicious of any bike that didn’t have the correct paint job and decals.

Which was why I wrote, you'll note, "if you prefer".

There is some merit in the debate that drier is the comparative adjective, and dryer is the noun ....

They shouldn't be. On most jap bikes the tank decals are lacquered over (stops petrol spillages ruining them) but it seems the 1100/1150's aren't. Sounds like your tank has been resprayed at some point :eek

Really?
I've supplied dozens of sticker kits in various colours for GSers, seems they don't share your views

I removed the tank decals shortly after getting my bike (new).. just thought it looked 'cleaner'.

I had the B/W Tank on my 1150, 01, When I changed the tank due to a bump?, the replacement came bear,,Looked a lot better, so when the decals came later i just left them off..the o/e tank had stickers also!!.
I was told that lacquared tank decals are only on the metal tanks due to less material expansion,, plastic are usualy tranfers,,aka 1200ADV decals..
