Fuel in a Petrol station is underground and generally at a lower tempreture that the ambient air tempreture. So when you fill your bike in most cases you will get more fuel in the tank than you expect. Even when the outside air is at around 15-16 degrees C you will get significant expansion.
Fill up and leave for a little while and watch the petrol drip out of the overflow pipe. If you open filler cap you will have to stand back as it spurts everywhere...
Even the Adventure overflow pipe has difficultly on occaisons. When that happens it will squeeze its way past the filler cap running over the tank staining the paint work and bubbling the transfers. It can then drip onto the cylinders and stains the cylinders.
You cannot get rid of the yellow piss coloured stains on the paint or metalwork...
Does this imply I have experienced this.... Yes - now I have a Baglux tank cover coz I wont spend the money to get the tank resprayed AGAIN
when you see it overflowing open the fuel cap.....I did a couple of weeks ago and a large amount of fuel blew out covering me and the bike in fuel.....mind you it did sit in the hot sun for a few minutes whilst I was waiting for Pod.
