Hi all, i'm getting my 12gs in 4 weeks (Balderstons current lead time is 4 weeks)

I Want a decent tank bag, preferably with size options, zip on extention or similar, ie small for day to day and large for touring

any help appreciated

Mysticwind apart from the BMW one large and expensive have a look at the Touratech bag.

Enjoy your ride when it arrives!!

I went done the BMW route and after one trip have gone out and got the Baglux tank cover which you can add any of their various top bags to it. You also get the tank protected when overzealous ferry companies clamp the bike down.

Got the baglux tank cover & bag - the bag can hold my laptop, a spare pair of gloves, my lunch and a few other bits & pieces and doesn't feel uncomfortable. Also the tank cover looks good without the tank bag...

I apologise for jumping into this discussion but I am in the same situation of getting the GS in the next few months and not being sure which way to go re the tankbag.

I have seen many threads on this forum where GS'ers appear to favour the Baglux tankbag and harness. I had one of these on my Pan. The harness was a nightmare to fit - you had to remove the side panels to fit the straps. I was also always a bit concerned about the possibility of moisture/dirt/grit getting between the tank and the harness and doing damage.

How do you feel about these issus on the GS - what are the drawbacks of the TT variety? How easy are they to fit/remove?

Any help appreciated, sorry to jump in here but this issue does not seem to be covered elsewhere.

wut........no need to apologise me old fruit......the post was on topic and Mysticwind's question had pretty much been answered :)

There have been quite a few threads over the years on fitting a baglux harness.....believe it or not a buckket of warm water features prominently in the solution, or at the very least leaving the harness in a warm airing cupboard overnight.

For most technical queries, you can use the 'SEARCH' button at t he top of the screen to read old threads.......type in a few key words and settle in for what is usually a good old read as most topics have been touched on or discussed already .

Here's a starter for you on fitting your Baglux...

I`ve a magnetic one from them and it`s lasted ages. Suffered lots of abuse and is still going strong, it has fitted my last 5 bikes including the 1150 I have now. It was only £40 and they still sell them. :)

I have the BMW tank bag - well pleased with it, well made, water proof (tested in torrential rain) and aesthetically pleasing, curves well with the tank. Previously had a baglux and tank cover for my r1100gs, in my opinion no comparison.

I'm glad about that as my 12's coming with the B*W bag! Some says it's a bit on the huge side? Any thoughts? I'm very tall in the body so don't think it'll be an issue.

I have always used baglux kit on my previous bikes and have been well pleased with them. However I picked up my new 1200GS in September and was off to France 3 days later and I could not get the baglux cover. So against my better judgement I purchased the BMW tank bag. It looks really good on the bike and after a 3 week tour I am converted. It is waterproof and because it is profiled to fit the GS all the contents are on a level plane. I found that on both my previous GS bikes (adventure and 1150) the baglux bags slope with the tank so the contents are prone to sit in your lap whenever you open the bag. So if I had to make the same decision now I would opt for the BMW bag.:)
