Hello airheaders,

I'm finally getting round to fitting me big tank....

big_tank.jpg

BMW roundels and fuel pipes to be fitted....

However, one problem is the standard indicators - on full lock they hit the tank either side :blast . When they hit, there's a good 3-4 mm of space left to the stop on the headstock. Here's a pic with the indicator heads removed - you can see the stalk with the wires sticking out.

The indicator stalks have a sticky-out bit (lug? tang?) that fixes the angle of the stalk where it mounts on top of the fork leg - one option is to cut that off so I can tweak the angle of the indicators and point them inwards a bit. I've also trawled the likes of M&P, Busters, etc looking for small replacement indicators, but they all seem to be little LED jobbies for bolting through Yamasaki Thunderblade fairings.

Anyone had the same problem? Got any suggestions?

Thoughts gratefully received as ever!

Yep you have to reduce the steering lock when you fit the PD tank....
I did it on mine by adding some washers under the bolts on the sterring lock stops

The mounting hole in the g/s steering stop goes downwards so fitting spacers has no effect. There is a small U shaped bracket that goes over the steering stop. The steering stop hole goes from side to side on the R100 frame and can be altered using spacers or washers.

It's part number 13 on this microfiche http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0346&mospid=47856&btnr=51_2647&hg=51&fg=20 I seem to recall Colt saying they are around £15.

Yeah but no but yeah but....

Thanks for replies chaps :thumb2

However, my lock stops don't have bolts :nenau

There are fixed pillars that stick up from the bottom fork bracket on either side. These bump into a little post that sticks out from the headstock - you can see them in this (pre-rebuild!) piccy...

Edit: I was tiddling about with images when Rob posted. Thanks for the link, I take it that u-shaped bracket goes over the sticky-out bit on the headstock? Ta!

Yours is different to mine. The hole in mine goes from top to bottom as per the microfiche bracket.

Go with Garry H's description for yours.

Just put a 5mm bolt through the hole. Something like this. Thats what Garry was refering to when he said use washers under the bolt to get the right steering stop.

Aaaaaaahh! Got it. That pic was pre-rebuild, so I think the hole needs clearing of powder coat.

Thanks again all! :bow

nice tank bll:D
yes i have found the answer to this as well.
rob's pic show it nicely.i have a spare bracket that rob mentions.
it fits on your little post.:)
rob has first dibs.if not its spare:augie

also remembered, did you get the sticky back plastic for the tank where it meets the seat?
and check your seat base does not pierce the seat cover and scratch the tank;)

Oops!

First dibs on the PD tank bracket please Jason. And the indicator stems. I'll pick them up at the East Mids bash :thumb

Cheers

Rob

Aaaannnnnd that's bollocks :( . That pre-refurb pic was misleading :blast - having cleaned the powder coat off the lockstop there's no hole, either top/bottom or left/right.

Ne'er mind, I've got the general idea - I'll suss something out.
