Received my new R1200GS few days ago. only done 60 miles so far but that will change today. At about 3000rpm it has a slight tappety rattle from both cylinders. Have spoke to the dealer who said it could be bedding in and they will look at it on its 600 mile service. Does anyone elses do it or did it when it was new. Off out now. look forward to your replys.
Thanks, ian

I wouldn't worry, my new GS was very tight at first. The head is re-torqued at the 600m service and the tappets re-set.

Enjoy your new bike :thumb :D :thumb :D :thumb

Have you had a MWB before? The engines are a lot more noisey than you may be used to, I really wouldn't worry about it :thumb2

Mike is spot on about how tight these engines are when new, it will improve dramatically by the time it gets to 8k miles and will carry on getting better (noticeably) right up to 15k(ish) and beyond.

More reassurance from a fellow novice with an 8V boxer - I got mine on March 1st. and the first few tanks only got me 170 miles. After a few hundred I could really feel it loosening and after 7 or 800 I started getting 210miles to the tank. That's how tight they are!
And I believe them when they say that they just get better with miles - about 8000 is apparently when they're settled.
I can hear the valves rattling, but that's what they do, I'll get used to it.
Enjoy!

Thank you to all that replied. Will just go out and enjoy it now. It's a great bike, great website too. Averaging high 40's to the gallon already. Amazing really. Thanks again

36,000Kms here in not much over 2 years. Still clonking and donking like a bag of bolts on start and at certain low rpms but you just get used to it. The bike just goes and goes over all terrains without missing a beat. Enjoy it you are on an uber machine.
