I was nosing around this here interweb thingy the other day, and stumbled across the Braking website. This company make "wave discs" for various bikes. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of these??

Don't bother, there's less surface area, so less available braking force: they'er just to look at, if you want more stopping power you use more friction area, ie more surface area ------

I fitted a set to my blackbird last year they were from a firm called trade direct.
I'm still not sure if I like the looks better than standard ones.As far as performance is concerned they seem to give slightly better bite and stop the pads from glazing.
Pad wear is no different than with o.e.
The center's are anodised alloy and the discs stainless.
I've done 8000m on them and I'm pleased with them so far.:beerjug: blu.

wave discs

This type of disc is fitted as standard to the new Kawasaki ZX10R superbike.
Apparently, they have several advantages over regular discs

1 They prevent glazing of the brake pads by cutting away any glaze
2 They have better cooling properties than regular shaped discs
3 They are less prone to warping after hard use.

Personally, I have never tried them but I know of several racers who swear by them. They claim less fade and better stopping although they use pads more quickly.

Cutting away glaze ?

If the wave form 'cuts away' glaze, what does it cut when the pad isn't glazed ?

err the pad ?

I've got "Braking's Wavy Discs" on my Hayabusa that I bought on Ebay last year, they look pretty cool , but they do nothing at all to the braking (do you see any World Superbikes with them ??......No)........and in fact if they didn't look so cool I'd take them of , because at 3 to 5 mph I get a bit of dragging , or low vibration.

On contacting Braking they say this usual , and suggested a change of brake pads may help , but I was already using what they suggested;)

So on balance , I wouldn't bother ...........:P :P :P :P

Cheers guys!

I must admit I was thinking mostly from an aesthetics point of view..........building a bit of a tarts handbag an' all. However wouldn't consider them if they were worse than standard.

Oh, it might help to mention my fronts are warped already(8k on an '02) and I understand Mike O has had a lot of problems with his oe fitments.

Had so called tarty discs ( Hope Minis)on my mountain bike for 2 years now great improvement in braking in shite conditions, most 2004 moto crossers specify wavey discs, so a good thing IMHO.
