I used my new garmin Quest for the first time on my bike last weekend doing the Region 9 Recce. It worked a treat but I appreciate that this was done almost entirely on single carriageway A and B class roads.
I then went down to Luton during the week in my car and encountered problems witht the Quest. I programmed the route south to take in the M8/M74/M6/M1. During the trip, "The wifie" continuely tried to get me to leave the motorway?? I ignored her and eventually, after re programming the route and still having the same problem, I switched her off. I turned the Quest back on some 20 miles from our destitation and she took me right to the door.
En route home from Luton, I held in the Find button to take me Home and (as I expected) the Quest took me up the M1 all the way north. No problem but she then put me over onto the A68 (a road I know well) and twice sent me "Right" at junctions when I knew to go left. I did as I was asked, thinking there must be a short cut. However, 100 yards or so later, she told me that we were Off Route. I turned back and all went OK.
When we reached the Edinburgh By Pass, she took me off at a junction too early (which I went with to see what would happen) and she simply put me across the roundabout and down the opposite side back onto the By Pass.
While I was on the A92 heading towards Kirkcaldy, she tried to get me to leave the dual carriageway and turn right at Cowdenbeath. This road also takes you to Kirkcaldy but it definately isn't the best or quickest route. I also noticed that in this area (between Fife and Edinburgh) her directions were "turn south/east etc" as opposed to "Turn right" etc.
Anybody any clue as to what went wrong...
