Weird one... After several oilheads I have never had a problem with slight knocking when going slowly over small bumps. I changed a fork seal a couple of months ago and had one side of the front end apart including cleaning out the shiteola emulsified fork oil, not like it does a great deal on the Telever. The knock only came apparent after that and I checked and rechecked the front end for tightness etc. Today I have had a good look at the set up and notice a slight knock in the upper brace bushes on either side, Hardly any but enough. Has anyone changed these before. Its not a safety issue as everything is firm and working freely but I have only really paid attention cos of this, even after well over 100k miles on different R bikes.

Make sure it's not the swivel joint nut on the underside of the top plate coming loose.

Are you sure it's not the ball joint clunking? - part#12 here: -

I wouldn't have thought slight play in the arm bushes would be particularly noisy, at least in the early stages.

These bushes are in the top yolk with the thread of the fork tube top bolted through... I've checked before for play in the swivel joint on the bottom yolk as I've had that before once... If you grab the stanchion at the top and pull up and down you feel the play in the bush at the top even though it's tight... Someone might have left out a washer perhaps on a previous fix... I'll see if I can get a suitable size and try...😉

I had exactly this issue, the slight clonk at slow speeds drove me nuts but eventually tracked it down to the right hand upper brace bush. My local bike shop (Russell Motors in Battersea) pressed it out and put a new one in—the left one was fine. As you say, it's not a safety issue but one of those things that once you notice it, is impossible to un-notice!

Quite👍😂

I had a knock on my 1150 front end a while back. I had Mikeyboy change the big telelever ball joint, the two top fork bushes and he made a new top shock mount too. Dunno which was causing the knock ( I suspect the shock mount ) but whatever it was, it cured it!

Yep... Id had play in the ball joint before but strangely enough you would have not felt it riding...only on the centre stand with the front end unloaded could you lift the Tele and see the play... On this one nothing so I'm with the bushes in the top yolk... I'll be checking it all a weekend soon when I have the time... The shite old oil in the RH leg makes we want to service the lefty too ..👍
