I had a 1200GS some time ago (Desert Yellow 55 plate - had it for 3 years) and sold it for a KTM 950SM. Now I love my KTM and don't want to part with it, but its limitations become very clear on long journeys and motorways. With a Spanish road trip due in March/April I am thinking of adding another bike to the garage and a would happily get back on a GS. To be truthful I could be lured by the new model, or even a KTM 1190, but I like the look of the Triple Black and there are few about at the dealers at the moment.

Would it be a false economy to go for the previous model? Or is it even much of a saving - they are all around the £10k mark? Is the new one so much better that the decision should be an easy one? Mind you I'll have the devil of job persuading Mrs Lungauer that spending £10k on a second bike is a good idea, let alone £14k!

Any advice gratefully received.

Try it out the Twin Cams are great bikes , The WC is no doubt a great bike but you wont loose a lot on a TB if thats what you are worried about . BMW don't flood the Market with new bikes no 2nd hand prices are better than most .

I went from a 950 sm to a GSA tb the ktm (best bike in the world) at the time, but the beemer tracks better in corners and soaks the bumps up on the back roads, both bikes being black I hoped the mrs wouldn't spot the change, but she did eventually. doh! I wouldn't go back, ktm build quality appears better, but the gs is more than the sum of its parts. your decision, (3 to 4 hour test ride min) best of luck.
this is only a one way ticket you can always change back!

Thanks for the replies chaps, and Harlequin I may well be interested. Could you pm me some details?

Yeah...get it bought. Isn't a million miles away from my current bike but rides nice, got a good deal, it has all the toys and looks a beaut.

I've just bought a brand new triple black GSA. picking it up end of month. I was gonna trade my rather mint 1150GSA against it but life is short so i'm gonna keep it at least till values are reet-up(at least that's what i've told the breadknife!!)

Quite right too, Dahoum, and I have duly subscribed.

Harlequin I'll PM you when my privileges update.

Yes, resistance is futile... the fact that you are asking the question tells us it is already too late... I agree with Rob and I speak from experience; I got a 90th anniversary - great bike

I bought my 12 plated 3000 mile Triple Black last July and ride it all year round .... Love it to bits .... Get one.:thumb2

OK so I now find myself with a test ride of both the TB and a new WC TE model. A back to back comparison at which, so the salesman assures me, I will go for the new model. If I am tempted for the water cooled this poses something of a problem since I would really need to chop in my 950SM to make it economically viable. Mind you the new RnineT would be tempting too (though not much good for touring), and so would a S 1000 R (equally impractical).
