Blimey, its not until you see it for yourself that you suddenly realise how bad it is/was.

Mutters and I did a ride out via Bidford & Welford and over the Stanway last night.

You can still see a lot of water still on the main roads surrounding Tewkesbury, and the amount of Police was incredible.

Just as you enter the town from the M5 after about a mile there is a side road on the left, that was still flooded. In fact there was still a car in the middle of the lane with the water up to window level.

All of the main roads are still marked as closed with quite a few having Police cars guarding them to stop tossers on bikes riding through them

Some of the damage caused is terrible, those poor people, I beat they wondered what the hell has hit them.

The Worcs end of the town is still not passable at all. In fact they have even set up a mobile Police station.

One bit that did make me chuckle though, on the right hand side of the by-pass that is still under heavy flood, there is a huge sign saying:- Coming soon a whole new housing development by Bloor Homes

Not now there isnt....:D

I think that we did about 130 miles in total, and even called in at Mutters mums for a cuppa in Welford.

"Thats my boy"........:augie

Great ride out, even tried one of the lanes in the Cotswolds, but it was flooded, theres a suprise then. :o

Flooding

Yeap unbelievable................ Alan, Sue's mum lives in tewkesbury, as do the farmer friends you knew:D They had been on holiday in Scotland till Monday......but they got home, Sue's mum into the the centre of tewkesbury and to jean's farm.
My company who are out by Jun 9 had to stop production as no one can get in. Water not a problem for them as they have a £1 million water filtration system for the extruders.
Sue's sister also lives in tewkesbury, moved a month ago, they got back in yesterday, just cellar flooding.
meanwhile the canal burst it's banks at Stoke prior so Sue's house she rents out had a lucky escape with some water in the kitchen, utility and the hall............. but only a drop. The house next door had 5' in:(
It really is terrible but I don't see how anyone can be blamed. It was unprecedented and I guess the authorities will learn from it.
The Severn at Worcester peaked at 16' 1 " still nowhere near the record of 17' 9" in 1947. In my opinion, having spent my life on or in the river is that because of the worcester link road which stops the Teme getting away it backs up through worcester. For sure when I go back to the '60's the river flowed through worcester a lot quicker in spate. Now it is effecctively held up at the new bridge and backs up.the current increases 100 once it's through. The culverts are not big enough. I have paddled all round when the river has been up (not this time, drat !!! all the paddling i've missed in perfect play conditions (for canoeists). It's the same for the Teme, it floods across Powick hams from the bend above the weir and can't get away, this is why it was so bad round there the other week and of course the teme backs up flooding the road at bransford, even though they raised it.
Anyway, you miserable pair you could have given me a call , I would have come out pillion:eek: with one of you for a look.   :bow

it said on the radio that it's the worst start to a summer since records began in 1764
I don't know if that's true but it has been grim
luckily for me I live on a hill but I can get stranded, does anyone remember that easter a few years ago ?
if the river floods and it rains heavily then I'm stuck

I feel sorry for those who have to put up with it, what can they do ??

poor sods

For anyone who is concerned that they are at risk of flooding then have a look at the Environment Agency website to find out...http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/826674/829803/?version=1&lang=_e

If you are at risk then you can call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 and sign up to receive a free warning service like this...http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/826674/1306207/?version=1&lang=_e

A Floodline operator can also arrange to send you flooding literature to help you prepare, or you can find it here...http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/826674/830330/?version=1&lang=_e

Then if and when flooding comes your way in the future someone like me will issue the warning and you'll be able to act to protect your family and property.
