Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Well despite some horendous weather on Saturday with sometimes six inches of rain on the roads, we managed to have our session of Advanced rider training.

School house was good.. Farmyard was interesting..... And the roads were, erm, wet.... But we all got something out of it which was great.

So thanks Marc for coming all the way down here, sharing your experience and some pints:beer:

Tom, Fergus, GerryC, Dennis and Paul a big thanks too for coming and making it work out.:thumb

At last today was dry and we all got a session with working radios to see how wel we absorbed the criticism from the previous day....

Lastly I won't mention anything about the moment:augie

And Gerry or Jaws100 who was here as a drinking companion feel free to post your worst photos:D

Must admit I was wondering how you got on yesterday... 35mm rain here 10 miles accross the bay from you ;) Anyway good to hear it wasn't rained off!

Down Beara way for a few days hols with the missus and ran into some crazy loons while there :augie.

To say it was raining on Saturday would be an understatement.....it was a vertical wall of rain falling driven by high winds . Didn't stop these boyos all the same from venturing forth...mad hoors :thumb

Richie & co Sat morning.....the rain is belting down

Me:surrender.......had no bike.....otherwise......:D:D.....did the sensible thing and entertained the missus all weekend :drinkinpa
Good to meet you all "again" guys:beerjug:

I left Tralee on Fri about 6 and did a bit of exploing on the way down arriving about 8.30. Met Richie & Og for th first time. Met others also and went to the lghthouse; met Gerry the hat there - it's a vry long story - had a few scoops and hit the sack.
To say it rained on Saturday is serious understatement; it more than rained - it really pissed down. We elongated the theory stuff but eventually we went forth for the slurry pit slalom here the learning continued in Og's expert hands.
Evryone said optomistic things about the rain blowing through - it blew through OK, through our waterproofs but the crew were hardcore and set off on what were roads but now where rivers.
We power boated to Kenmare and dripped in a cafe. It was not about finding the best line but about finding the least amount of washed down debris.

That evening we washed down pints and told lies and went to bed damp inside and out - tire but happy.
Sunday saw the sun and we were assessed on dry roads - well there were some damp patches but it was a doddle after Saturday,
I went up to the old mine buildings with Tom and then struck for home by - as always - by a circuitous route.

I would like to thank Richie for string it together and to Og for working so hard to mars us better safer motorcyclists. I have taken away clear areas for improvement.

It was wet but good - I'm glad to have been part of it.

the body has made it back safely...
however, i think i lost my mind somewhere around Healy Pass :pullface
or maybe it just dissolved and ran out me ears in that rain :D
what a Great weekend! :thumb2
Fair play to Every One of you for turning up and riding on (and on) in that weather. :clap
to put it mildly - the standard (and sheer bloody minded determination ?) was Very High.
:thumb2

i will post something more later / tomorrow - got to dry out me bits now....
before mushrooms start growing in the topbox.

:)

Slow. As usual

This site is giving me problems so excuse the late thanks.

Big thanks to Ogmios for his patience, encouragement and very significant effort in coming all the way down here. I'll be thinking about (and hopefully acting on) all the welcome criticism and advice.
:bow

Thanks also to Richie for bringing it together. The minor inconveniences :augie didn't stop a very enjoyable couple of days.
Good to see all of you. Next time.

:)

Saturday night was good crack - glad I was there for National Handshake Day! [...ask Ritchie].
Many thanks to Ogmios for all his advice and patience.
I'll be back :aidan:aidan:aidan

Come on then Marc, we're waiting:augie

am 'composing' at this very moment....... :P
and feck off - they missed me here in the job - saved up a lot of cra... "work" for me to return to.
watch this space.

and finally....

sorry folks - been somewhat busy since i got back.
ANYhow,
arrived in Cork city early afternoon and met Richie at Fergus Cawleys (good shop - all work space / feck all showroom - my kind of Bikeshop :thumb2).
then met Jimmy - Grumpy one, who shared hs feelings on Guzzis (short, blunt and not sweet - tempted as i was, i didn't run over his foot as we left. :augie).
So after a little detour we headed into Da Wesht.
though i've often been in West Cork and thought i knew it well enough,
.. Allihies and the roads and scenery up to it...... just WOW! :bounce1
as we left Castletownbear the road ahead looked... 'technical' :green gri.
it was and it was one i got to know well over the weekend. you know when you get a rhythm going and the bends just keep on coming and you reach the other end with a daft grin?
i seemed to be doing that a lot over the weekend - but to have that road as the 'Drive Up To Your House'... Richie, you are blessed / i am jealous! ;)

got deposited to Veronicas B+B. nice welcome and an excellent shower which i was truly glad of - being damp and cold. that shower got a lot of use over the weekend!
settled, sorted and fed (Big Thank You to Nadette, the boys and Richie for the welcome :) )- now where's the pub?
over beer and bollix much was sorted for the next day.
o.k - Richie sorted much - me? - not renowned for my navigation skills - i left him to it. :blast

Saturday a.m. wot gobdaw thought a 9.a.m. start was a good idea?
oh yeah - that'd be me. :blush.
so we headed for the Schoolhouse.
as with all the arrangements - Richie did us proud and looked after all the details, Fair Play :clap - made my life SO much easier (i just had to focus on abusing - i mean assessing riding :augie).
i've rarely had such laid back (sofa all to myself) classroom facilities!
this is always the most revealing part of a session - getting a 'finger on the pulse' of what the guys wanted / expected etc.
well - it would have been :blast - but these guys were so easy going i knew i'd learn little til i got them on their Bikes.
theory went well, but as always "After all is said and done - more is said than done" so...
onto the aptly named Slurry pit slalom.
now i have never done 'car park' work in a farmyard before. between the aroma and the inbuilt hazards (hay, organic deposits and rough terrain) the lads soon showed a good level of low speed control :clap.
Richie was my stooge - :D he did demos while i waffled / talked technical (i'll lets the group decide which!). this helped enormously, freeing me to make better use of the time.
oh, did i mention it was raining just a little? yeah - just a little.

Now, on to the road section.
challenging conditions..... (this comment laden with sarcasm and understatement).
ahem.
Richie was taking half the group for a warm up ride and sightseeing - if you could see anything more than a few metres in front of you that is.
i took the other half off and away through the twisties.
as already said - it was truly a matter of finding the tarmac under the water and between the debris washed onto the road.
Sheesh!
someone said hardcore?
Oh Yes. i can honestly say i have in 18 years of doing this lark that i have never come across a bunch of more determined all-weather-riders. :clap
:bow ye feckers - ya worked me hard! :D
half time / change sides.
Richie met us in...ah...er... town. :augie
we swopped groups, we carried on .... it was still raining somewhat.
more twisties, more over the hills and far away. though we didn't do Healy Pass this day - there'd have been a danger of me and the Guzzi taking off and paragliding into the atlantic. conditions were "harsh" (a euphemism for F*rkin Hell! ).

ANYhoo...
thats all for the 'Ride report' (a.k.a. as Noahs diary) for now, coz it was back to the B+B / shower / a lie down in the dark for the gibbering Trainer and then food and pub.

two bee continued. :)

two bee continued. :)

I was there and know what happened, but even so, nice write up:thumb

...in the pub, it was good. much music, song and (rain) dance. :)
i was a good boy and didn't spend too long there though - left the lads to National Handshake Day (wtf IS that about ).
so off to bed - a light dribble accompanied me home, but it looked like it was dying out.... at least we all hoped so.

Sunday morn and i didn't wake to the sound of god emptying the khazi.
Phew! tings can only get betterer
so, what and who that hadn't been done the day before was done today.
including Healy Pass :bounce1 :bounce1 :green gri
this was for me - and i sincerely hope for the lads a Grand Day Out. good roads, good riders and good craic too.
we covered more technicalities, details and finesse, we covered more miles, we covered our faces with grins. :D
we worried the odd sheep - i passed the same spot where the previous day i'd taken a 'moment' to admire the flora close up :augie (Richie - you are a Bollix! :P). we worked hard - seriously, for anyone doing this - it is tiring but (if done right) Damn Good fun too. :thumb2.

Lunch came and i had mine back in Veronicas B+B. i can recommend it - (and while i remember, you get good strong Proper coffee with yer brekkie).
the last victims - candidates were lined up for the starting line and off we went - having said our damp and tearful farewells to earlier comrades in rain.
i felt even then a pang as i knew soon this would be over :( and i'd have to return to the Real World©.
finished up in Kilteal (sp?) with a Guzzi for company (that man has taste :thumb).
Then on to the (allegedly) true Capital; Cork.
Handshake Day must've been over for i was offered none and saw none. :nenau
ANYhoo,
i dont like ring roads much - even less when yer looking for fuel and a previous minister for transport thinks "services" dont belong ON national routes / but near them....
long story and detour later i'm the far side and back on a dull motorway - including a minor issue with a toll booth that took a kinda "sorry mate - you dont EXIST" attitude. i was slightly peeved, but the driver in the car stuck behind me was Really p1ssed off / but strangely reluctant to "discuss" the matter with me. :augie

ANYhow...again.
journey home uneventful, fairly quick, thankfully as i had filled my boots and my feet were like prunes - also my jacket at least a half stone heavier and the contents of the topbox were learning the breast stroke.

Arrived home to a warm house and a cool welcome....
"oh, you're back" from Mrs Og - who was (quite rightly) enjoying a house to herself and i think i could've stayed another day down there no problem. :banghead:
But after a nice cuppa - (Thank You Dear, yes - she's looking over my shoulder now - OW! - stop it... Dearest ) i felt more or less humanish.

in conclusion! :rob
~ this could not have come together without richie. :clap all loose ends tied off and problems sorted. Thank you. :bow
~ the Lads - pleasure to ride with you and i'd happily do it again.
~ sorry we couldn't have done more; miles, variety of terrain and in better conditions.
~ video cam - tried a little - (Richie i have the evidence of you... :green gri) but just too feckin wet to get any decent footage.
~ hospitality = second to none. i can see the attraction of Allihies, to visit or live. :)

... how did they do?
not telling :P thats Client Confidentiality - but i'd be happy to tour with any one of them. :thumb2

~ Healy Pass - i have GOT to take Mrs Og there... i have been told :augie

hope youz all got an insight into WTF i do this and why it can only make a good ride better. (there i go again; Bikes and Lovers.... So similar :green gri)

Training should be fun - i hope yiz all had some. feel free to contact me if you want more info, more training, a formal assessment or just a follow up on how you did on the day.

Richie,
*with a poke of elbow in ribs*
organise another will ya? :D

~~
Marc,
RoSPA DIPstick.

Wow

Marc,
Looks like we gave you a relatively handy one on the highways of West Clare: rolleyes:

Denis

Denis,

oh i have fond memories of Clare too :bounce1
part of the buzz of doing these sessions -
every single time there's a different . . ... "Challenge" :augie

long may it continue
