That's it then.

I did indeed have a Convert - Loved it. Not slow, but took a little longer to get up to the same speed as a T3 say.

2 speed box with multi plate clutch which was only needed on the rare occasions you had to change gear while moving. Drive goes through a hydraulic torque converter. 2nd is pretty much good for everything. I did try and get to Mandello without changing gear, but did have to use 1st once or twice on a couple of alpine climbs. Got there and back with no drama though.

Sold it to Pikey Dave some years back, who still owns it.

Thats a lovely beastie Cookie - I've always been a big fan of Guzzis from that era, and quite 'Convert curious'. Had a mate back in the old rally days who rode one for years and swore by it. It didn't hang around either I remember :)

Momentum is key :D

Just noticed this. Why did bike designers start giving us a plethora of stuff we don't need, whilst dropping great ideas like this?

Edit - sorry Steve, going a little off topic here!

The automatic would require a parking brake. It must add to the effort needed to deploy the stand, so since it's not needed on manual motorcycles where they can just be left in 1st it never caught on. And you wouldn't want to give up one of your 5 drive modes would you Paul? :)

1300GS TE ASA. The Hondas are too tall for me.
Have a ride on a non-Tour GoldWing DCT, if you haven’t already. Although they weigh 1/3 of a ton, the weight is low and the dct is excellent. I’m a recent convert (though I’d like to try one of those too, one day) 🙂

I'm more of a Yorkshire dales man than a cruising to the south of France man.

Modes? What are those?

If I am feeling sporty I open the throttle faster. If it’s wet I am more cautious and open it much more carefully. Are those ‘modes’? 😆

Andres was Outromuch on here, he was riding a KTM 1290 if I remember correctly when he left..
That’s was his dyslexic cousin .Andres was Outtomunch. Not to be confused with Outomunch who was also The Holy Dipshit and other various monikers befitting of his amazing humour 😜🤡
