The Barbican…. before the Barbican

Excellent. If I had the means I would love to live in the Barbican. It's an enclave right in the city, fantastic location. Hard to believe now the estate was originally designed as a sort of social housing.

I don’t understand. There are five of them

Ah, ok, they just ignored the drummer. (He did get about two seconds at the start.)

Well, that is what you call the bloke who hangs out with the musicians, isn’t it?

That's a popular myth. The Architects, for whom SWMBO's cousin worked at the time incidentally, were previously lead on a social housing development just north of the Barbican site. However, the Barbican Estate itself was actually intended for City & International professionals & their families, with apartments let on a commercial basis by the Corporation of London. The idea was to attract individuals who worked in the Square Mile to live locally again - WW2 bombing had created an exodus, after which the focus had been on rebuilding the commercial heart.

Currently, a good sized penthouse appt will cost at least £3.5 million.

What was there before?

The Romans, their building working is still in place today .. :D

Saw the Nick Cave film “20,000 Days on Earth”, at the Barbican Theatre
