Having owned both an R1100RT and now a 1150GS I thought I'd take the best features of both bikes and amalgamate 'em to make the perfect bike. To that end I added a centre-stand-lifting-handle from a dismantled RT onto the rear frame of the GS. Voila !The perfect bike!
You'll possibly notice I've also added a aluminium checker plate toolbox cover, hinged at the front and locking into the original rear seat lock using a slice of angle iron with a square hole in it for the latch tongue to lock into. Medium density foam rubber seals the underneath and a Givi mounting rack bolts on top for a topbox. If you're planning something similar, and using a Givi Maxia (45 litres, from memory) you'll need spacers between the Givi mounting plate and the aluminium plate to enable the underneath of the topbox to clear the handles on Zega panniers.
The stainless muffler extension was made by a local exhaust guru. Unfortunately the rear of the cut-out in the aluminium pannier touched the muffler extension, so the pannier needed modification as well. You mount Zega racks and don't like the look of the el-cheapo extension supplied, and out comes the can of worms .........
