Last two hours together. Decides to crash into me and rip off my offside pannier !

I've had the same, that's why I'm always at the rear now..
Nice trip though, did similar earlier in the year but took in Garmisch for a day or 2..
Hope ur both ok & incidentally my mate never crashed into anyone again, lessons..!
 
I havnt got a GS or GSA or Panniers to fit .
Throughout the trip i was constantly telling my mate (47 years, met when we were 7, he's dutch) DO NOT come up my side when we are moving.....
Through rush hour in Rouen, Braked at lights and wollop. Still mates though and always will be. Cost him 350 quid though !
It made me think. Why the feck am I always at the front leading, whoever Im with. Its a combination of two things, I have the latest maps on the Nav VI and I've been there before (probably)
It may also be something to do with my military career, although id rather be monging at the back !!

EDIT : Better than coming up my back end (Before someone else says it) :D
 
Mate of mine rammed his superduke 1290 into the back of my GS earlier this year, lucky i glanced in the mirror and saw it coming. I was doing about 5 mph and he at least 20 more we both managed to stay on as he hit me dead square tyre to tyre. Unfortunately for him he used his balls to stop himself going over the handle bars, we couldn't get a word out of him for 10 mins.

That must have done some damage to both bikes?
 
Its not always the end of the journey, we went on a cycling holiday as teenagers , went to get the third person who was running late and told us to set off and he would be there in a minute . We slowly bimble off down the road only to be hit by him less than 500 yards away.

He was head down going full tilt to catch up and not looking where he was going ????????????

As a result 2 bikes were written off

French trip, lead rider takes a right turn and then has a sat nav moment and mains a moderate pace while he pokes some buttons, me behind, KTM takes the junction has a quick look round, looks forward OH SHIT. I was fortunate to have a clear area at the side of the road as I was launched about 20deg to my right and managed to gain control about 3ft from a hedge. It was just one of those things that can happen to any of us. KTM is a very experienced and competant rider, used to race an R6 and motocross, does about 12,000 mls a year.
The only damage was to the TUV German mudguard thingy, this may have saved more carnage by reducing the chance of the tyres climbing up each other. the bottom half got folded up and under with the wheel rotation, we just pulled it back out and snapped off the damaged bit.
The fact that he hit dead square tyre on tyre was the reason we got away with it, 4" to one side and it would have been a very different story, but it didn't.
Apparently mateys nuts work just fine.

That was lucky then; could have been quite nasty.:thumb
 
You never lead by riding in front if you can, particularly in countries where hand held speed guns are prevalent. They can only focus on one at a time and its usually the one in front!

Interesting.......how do you lead on a motorcycle trip if your are not at the front.:nenau
