The future's bright ...

Greg
are they high maintenance with regards to valve clearances, oil and filter changes?

Tommy

I now have my new baby tucked up at home. It come with a massive collection of goodies including the full parts list and a glossy and comprehensive workshop manual.

According to the book, the oil and filter etc needs doing every 15 hours (after it's been run in).

If you're interested, you can still pick up a bargain here.

Oil and filters take 10 mins max to change, with another 10 mins to do valve clearances every so often.

So yes more maintenance than say a DRZ but the rewards are sooo worth it:clap

Oh if I only a spare 4K stuffed somewhere!:tears

She looks worth every last penny.

I keep hearing about bergs blowing up, but I've had 2 and if they are looked after they are easy to start and reliable (for a full on race bike).

My 300EXC however seized within a year of ownership :augie:augie:augie My fault for riding it on the road too much :blast:blast:blast

Good buy there fella, you go have fun. I am as jealous as fooooooook :thumb

Even though my Husaberg is still unridden, I've spent a fair bit of garage time taking it apart. So far it's benefitted from:

  • Installation of full Datatag kit
  • Addition of GPS mount
  • Hard-wiring of Optimate lead
  • Hard-wiring of GPS power source
  • Husaberg 4mm sump-guard fitted
  • 'High' rear light and number plate mount fitted
  • Off-road front & rear sprockets (14/48) fitted

Having read the White Power manual on the rear shock, I've now got the OE spring off and await the arrival of a stiffer replacement. Then I'll set all the suspension settings and it'll be good to go.

Roll on 1 January!

Now changed the rear spring and rebound damping too.

Roll on 1 January!

I agree Greg, and if I thought that trail riding would be the same as it was years ago then I would indeed buy another one. But I was sick and tired of the increase in the amount of hassle and also the loss of so many great lanes I sold up. :(

I enjoyed the best part of 15 years trail riding around the UK, and maybe its just best kept that as very fond & cherised memories now. :rob

I finally got to ride my new baby on Thursday and Saturday.

What a bike!!

The light weight, the suspension and the power delivery are all awesome!!

Why did I persevere with the DR-Z for so long?? :blast

On the downside, I spent half of Friday on it's first service. It suffers from some un-thought-through design - the sumpguard has to be removed to drain the oil and clean the screen (well it doesn't if you don't mind riding with a sumpguard full of old engine oil); one of the oil-filter housing bolts can't be easily removed because the clutch-pipe in in the way; and checking adjusting the valve clearances needs a good supply of knuckles!

But you soon forget all that when you ride it! Now when can I get out on it next?

:)

I have just spent another 3 hours getting my valve clearances correct. That's why my bike would not kick over on Saturday. I got the valve clearances all wrong:augie. Apparently there are 2 TDC and I managed to adjust the valves in the overlap and not the compression TDC:blast

Are your valves as difficult to gain access to as my Katoom?

You did change the oil again after you adjusted the valves, didn't you

Changed the oil & filter at the same time. Fully synth oil (as per spec) used.

I'm really sorry that you didn't get out with us - it was a hoot!

On the Husaberg the rockers are under two small covers on the cam cover. The inlet is reasonably accessible to get the cover off, but I'm going to buy a new set of feeler gauges with a bend in the blade and a single blade for each thickness.

The front is a right barsteward as the radiator is in the way. The book says to drain the system and take the rad off - I might do that next time - it'd be easier!

:hammer

Greg

Sounds like your valves are in exactly the same position.

My book says to drain and remove rads too but I gently tie them back and can just get to the front valves I have bent a 0.12 feeler guage for this purpose.

It's running well now so next time:thumb2

I picked up a few Husaberg-specific parts today.

They all arrived in fecking orange packages!
