The great FE501 conversion

Just about the say the Kriega.
I have a little tang bag that’s magnetic that I no longer use that works great for that sort of thing hence asking.

Kriega tankbag adaptor + US10 or US5 work well for me on several bikes including the 701.

I’ve got one which I’ll be trying but I think the alien monster masquerading as the top of the fuel tank might make it sit in the wrong place.

I used a Wolfman enduro tankbag on a ktm250exc which was a good fit. Martin at windingroads.co.uk is the distributor and is very helpful.

trawling through various websites to try and find a tiny tank bag that will fit and take my phone, passport and bike documents.

Enduristan do a good one, its what I use on the 525.

(edit -Sandstorm 4 extreme is the model)

The problem I’ve got is that the top of the tank is waisted in where it sticks up above the plastic side panels and the seat so any bag is going to be sitting back on the seat and even though I’m far from being a fat bastard with my 32” waist I still think it’ll get in the way.

It’s a strange shaped tank but I’d sooner have the larger capacity and no tank bag than struggle to get 120 miles on the standard tank.

I did try my Wolfman panniers and a 40l roll bag on it this morning and though the roll bag looks bulky in the photo that’s because I shoved a big sleeping bag, an Exped down mat and a down jacket in there to pad it out. For summer use I get a smaller sleeping bag, a Thermarest mat and a 2 man tent in a lot less space.

I had to cross the straps over on the seat to move them back a bit but the bags are 20l per side so plenty of room for a small stove, one pan and enough clothes to see me through.

It’s the gap between pannier straps, me and the tank that’s the important part because I want the panniers as far forward as possible without me having one of those big plastic buckles wedged up my arse!

I’m probably thinking about it too much and should accept that whatever doesn’t fit in the pockets of my jacket goes in a pannier but I’m used to keeping my bank card, phone and passport in the map pocket of a tank bag where they’re easy to fish out at any point.

1st World problems for a 3rd World lifestyle are never a good mix

Andy,
I still have a Wunderlich handlebar bar if you want me to dig it out and have a play???
I'm in South Cambs not far from Royston, and around this Fri and weekend

Can I take you up on that in a couple of weeks? I’m off Aberdeen this weekend to drop off Xmas presents and wind up my youngest granddaughter but all being well I should be home the following weekend.

That assumes it doesn’t need a handlebar brace because the bike doesn’t have one :blast

Ah, now I see. Guilty of not looking at the photos properly! As others have said, bar bag, or get a "tank cover" made for just the top sticky outy bit? Sure something could be made with webbing to fasten things to the side of the hump?

Me and Steve have been using these for a few years:

https://wolfmanluggage.com/collections/tank-bags/products/tank-panniers

They fitted the XT and now they are on the GS except I get to fit a proper tank bag as well.

You could see how mine fit when you bring that to Wales to be destro.....tried out on the lanes ;)

Mine are a bit manky but they have never broken. Been totally overloaded and despite often used as resting cushions for my legs when in 'cruise mode'.

How much roadkill can you get in each bag?
