It has been snowing, for over a month here in Denmark. So there is no hope for motorcycle riding the next couple of weeks. Instead of just waiting for clear roads, I will begin the major annual cleaning of my (05) R1200GS. And how the annual cleaning is made can you see here. The text made in 09 is in Danish, but I hope the pictures give an explanation, and maybe some inspiration. If anyone is interested, I can try to translate the text into English:

How many miles has your spangily GS covered .:thumb2

Welcome to the site Lars :thumb

-5c at the moment here... and too cold to be in the garage doing anything to the bike :(

Hi Bose

My GS has covered about 41000 km – We use the metric system in Denmark. Is it about 26000 miles (?)

All screws, bolts and nuts are bathed and cleaned in WD40 which will reduce rust problems in the screws notches. Everything is reassembled in dry condition, except collector and muffler which should be applied with a fine layer of copper or ceramic grease

Best regards Lars

Holy cow, it looks like you have too much spare time, that must have taken ages.

Odd thing is I would love to do the same to mine, something satisfying about a clean bike!

I always start off with the best intentions of giving the bike a really deep clean but unfortunately get bored halfway through:augie

Right now the bike is stuck in the garage covered in all sorts of road crap and salt in dire need of a good wash down. It's not going to happen though as the hose and tap are frozen solid. I'm hoping all will be well though when things start to thaw out as there is a layer of ACF50 underneath all the dirt.

If you get bored
I would be happy to ship mine out to you
for some of the same :)

Out of interest> how long does that take

Also do you iron your shreddies:augie

just wondered

have a good xmas

I wonder how "shreddies" translates into Danish?

Very very clean and I thought I had OCD or CDO or whatever.:jibber

LarsM, we are natural born opposites which shows the variety of human nature....:augie
To be honest i am too busy reading the crap on this forum to get too OCD about cleaning....:D

How long time it takes? Usually I work on the bike a couple of hours every evening during one week, but it is possible to do it in one weekend if you use 16-20 hours in total. But again, I only do the major cleaning ones a year, and only in the period of wintertime, where I don’t drive because of snow and salt on the streets. For me it is god therapy against winter depression - My wife agrees, she loves to be the captain of the TV for a whole week :augie

PS: Sorry, but my English is hopeless. I haven’t got the faintest idea of what ODC, CDO, and shreddies are – But I have an idea :D:D
