The new 1200 - will there be an adventure variant at all?

The roll out will be first the standard GS, then there will be a new RT (probably in about a year) and then the new GS Adventure (probably a year after that).

The current Adventure will be around for a while yet which suits me because I've just voted with my wallet and bought a new GSA (actually my fourth :ronno )

I asked Lind BMW in Norwich about the availability of an Adventure version?.....

.....they estimated in about a years time. :nenau

RT

Oh ya Mad....the RT could be rather nice...forgot about the wazzer RT with all this GS chat :blagblah

News from the Vaterland.........The present Adventure will run for a nother year.
Or will it? Notice large tank. Come on Herr Flick, let us know:ronno

Interesting.

Where did the piccy come from?

EDIT....just found it :)

The guys on Advrider may well be right.....look at the 'bigger' tank and you can see the shroud patterns that they used to mask the shapes in the pre-production model spy shots........plus, there are no extra bars, which all ADVs so far have come with.

IIRC, the 1200GS was introduced mid 2004 (I had one in Sep 2004), and then I had one of the first 1200GSA's in April 2006, some 18 months later.

But my money is on a much quicker launch this time around. If there isn't a dedicated Adv model, I reckon there will be an "Adv pack" that can specified at time of order, which will provide bigger tank, longer travel suspension, enduro box etc.

According to BMW at Intermot yesterday, the wc gsa will be launched for the 2014 model year. I imagine that means they'll show it at Intermot 2013, with availability for the national season launches in March 2014.

Cheers
Jimmy

It's going to take some odd tank shapes or a bit of a clever system to get a bigger tank on, with those vertical throttle bodies :nenau

Looking at some of the pics, I can't help wondering if the 'fuel tank' is actually partially false...there seems to be a lot of black space under the seat- Have they done something clever there that we haven't noticed?
(looks like a photoshop job on this picture though)

Oh, and what's the black box immediately behind the rear shock?

If they do stick a bigger tank on, the throttle bodies are going to have to be splayed outwards

air box is now at the very front of the "tank" fuel tank now down low ish right in front of your bollocks and extending down.

My eyes, my eyes.... the pain !

Hi,
I say 2014 will be the year of the GSA, since BMW has made changes in their production/quality lines. They will be capable pull it off to release, pretty sure about that. My dealer thinks 2014 too, and he visits Germany often enough. Time will tell.

Just as I was thinking that my previous R1200GSA (2008) was just about the fugliest bike BMW could ever think of, they came out with the design of this new WC boxer. Bravo, bravo ! It is so ugly, it blots out the sun, thus increasing the adventure experience too. Only thing for me left is to wait for an even uglier ADV version, and yours truly will return to the realm of the GS world. For now I'm by far too happy with my totally different animal, the K1300S. (My R80 1992 boxer does take part in this or any discussion).

Opening my oversize bag of popcorn, and awaiting the developments.

Oh, and what's the black box immediately behind the rear shock?

I take it you mean behind the shock, and under the seat? Could this be an auxiliary fuel tank? Great place to put it if that's what it is, reducing weight over front wheel.

the new adv model

hello
rumers in norway, from a very reliable source,is that the first 10 buyers will get a factory option (3000£) pannieres with multiple stickers from around the world,so they canceled the adv modell.:aidan

Just for info i was told last week another 18 months before the adv comes out

Excuse my ignorance but what's a "vanilla" bike ?

Steve

Not at all mate, its a silly buzzword bingo phrase i see used at work occassionally, equivalent of 'out the packet', 'bog standard', recently adopted by the lovvies and corporate 'ya' brigade, mostly southerners.
