the Program only runs when the cd is in the drive

I'm sure I've seen this one answered here, but I can't find it.

One of my daughter's games (Simms ) only works when the CD is in the drive. Is there something I can do to fool the program into thinking the disk is in the drive?

Uninstall the program.

Create a directory on your hard drive called Sims for example.

Copy the entire contents of the CD to that directory.

Take the CD out of the drive.

Reinstall the program from the setup.exe that is now in that directory.

Job done

Program is called Game Jackal, but it costs money I'm afraid although I've got it and it works, no problems.

Try going to http://www.megagames.com and look under pc game fixes. There will be a cracked version of the executable file available for download that doesn't refer to the cd to start. Will be called something like Sims_nocd. Just get the correct version for your game eg: english and replace the executable with that version. Can't vouch that they check them for viruses etc but in years of using them I have had no problems.
