Hey everyone so narrowed it right down now to a Rallye or a GSA again
Had the 2014 and I was just browsing some of the older threads about updates to the engine? is there any sure fire way or time period that they started rolling out the new engines on the GSA an GS TE's? Know the Rallye has it
current bikes I've seen are a 15 plate GSA 16 plate GSA and a 17 plate Rallye

Finally anyone know if there was any changes to the Rallye between 2017 and 2018

thanks in advance :)

Can't remember the exact date but I do know that the ones with the new engine/gearbox have that orange reflector on the forks that were added to comply with Euro 4 regs.

Cheers mate

on the Rallye would we all say its a good a road bike as the exclusive or is there differences there just starting to look into it hopefully be back on a beemer in the next few weeks :)

Off the top of my head, it's more off-road oriented but I don't think that makes it any less of a road bike TBH. The basic specs are the same except for the spoked wheels and single seat, smaller screen etc that the Rallye has. The Exclusive is a GS TE plus a fancy paint job, gold calipers and a bit of proper metal on the radiator guards. I'm sure that there will be plenty of people to follow who know the exact differences. Oh, there is a Rallye TE as well. You can also order more suspension travel and a spring with a higher spring rate to make it more suitable for off-road use.

Cheers mate seems to be a lot of differing info out there,

Ideally after close to normal GS height with the spit seats had a sit on one with the bench seat looked epic but Prefer the normal seat I think :) Trying to sus out it the Rallye TE is the same bike as the exclusive an normal GS TE suspension wise :)

Unless you order the Rallye Sport, which has longer travel front suspension for off road riding, the differences are purely cosmetic. All electronics (incl modes) and suspension are the same. As has been said the bench seat makes it a little higher than the std TE. On the Rallye you get:

- a bench seat
- plastic rad guards and frame protectors
- off-road pegs
- spoked wheels
- a lower screen.

The exclusive gets metal side panels and cast wheels.

Both get gold callipers and special paint/transfer treatment to mark them out from other TEs.

Spoked wheels can be optioned on the Exclusive, just as standard seats can be optioned on the Rallye, whilst all other parts such as guards, protectors and pegs can be added as dealer fit extras on the Exclusive, and of course a standard size screen added to the Rallye.

In short, aside a decision to go with longer travel suspension (Rallye Sport), it's entirely a choice of cosmetics. Rallye's seem more popular, but that's simply because bikers aren't always the most sophisticated bunch and simply don't understand the allure of a bike with iced chocolate metallic paint...

Now that looks spot on mate :) thanks for the reply really appreciate it ever gone off road with the normal wheels? The dark tint screen looks spot on with that colour way

its confusing because there are so many "specifications" - people i know bought the rallye and then added every option to basically end up with a GS TE in rallye colours!

The supposed "best" gearbox is MY17 onwards - which would be the ones build from Sep16 onwards and supplied with the orange reflector as previously mentioned - i think thats right anyway.

That said, my Jan16 build GSA has an amazing gearbox - slick and clunk-free - i wonder what all the fuss is on the later ones!

Offroad with alloys is better described as country lanes and muddy tracks, if you truly want to bounce the bike around, get yourself a pair of spoked wheels, many here will tell you why, if you are more on the tarmac, and a bit of light offroading, alloys will be fine.

The nearest I've been to being off road is when the nav 6 took me down a B road that narrowed suddenly to 2 feet of mud, at which point rather than stand up and give it glory I tamely squeezed the brakes :blast. A pannier took the whole of the fall.

I think that if you had true off roading in mind then spokes would be the order of the day, and very possibly the longer travel suspension on the Sport. Me, I'd struggle with even a 800 off road!

Edit - just seen smogbob's reply - country lanes and muddy tracks are indeed the nearest I get to off road.

Yep but I forgot to add when I found my nice flat offroad, I hit some sweetcorn that had just been harvested, and bike went sidewards and down................:blush

My April 2014 bike had a replacement engine fitted in March 2016 and the gearbox is a significant improvement IMHO :thumby:

Thanks everyone really appreciating all the info :D can't wait to join the fold again once my mx an rd 250 lc are sold :D Harley went this weekend so that's good

Must admit I keep asking that question on the 14' bikes I've seen Sven

Updated gearbox with judder-dampener and some upgrades to shift mechanism and bearings was 2017-on.
2018 Rally got TFT dash option.2018 ADV got DTC instead of ASC and TFT option.
If you don't need the big tank and toploading aluminum boxes I would go Rally with sports-suspension.
Then you have the shorter trail and 20mm taller suspension of the ADV which is better if you ride hard on the road while saving 40 lbs on weight...
Of course you miss out on triple-black...;)
