Not sure if this strictly fits here but perhaps it's the nearest match.

I'm off next week to see Richard Holmes give a talk on his latest book - The World at War (and of course a book signing) at the Camberley branch of Waterstones. It's on tuesday 13th November at 7:30 (tickets in advance).

He is doing a few of these, see here.... In fact one is today! http://www.randomhouse.co.uk/worldatwar/about_richard_holmes.html

I've got other Richard Holmes books and make a point of watching his TV series.

Recently I collected the freebie DVD set of the World at War. Really excellent.

Wrong side of the water

Damn, I really admire Richard Holmes. I have a few of his books at home and I always enjoy the series of programmes he has done for tv.

I hope it will be a good session although I suspect the actual talk may not be that long. I think Richard Holmes is both very watchable and readable and he clearly knows his stuff.

I've been gradually playing back the DVD series of the World at War (WWII) which is so good.

I've also just sent off for the DVD series of The Great War . This was a freebie with the Daily Mail (as was the other one). I collected a few by buying the paper at Smiths but collected the vouchers so I could get the complete set.
Again, from the ones I've played back, this is also a terrific documentary of WWI.

Just got back from his talk.... absolutely brilliant. A great presenter and I highly recommend going to see him if you get a chance. He ended up speaking for around 70 minutes.

Have you seen all the vouchers on E bay for the Great War give away ?

There were over 350 adverts when I looked a few weeks ago.

madness !

Just read a book I have had a long time and not bother reading.

And we shall shock them by General Sir Peter Fraser

Its a history of the British Army from 1918 until 1945.

Would really recommend this - its not the usual hindsight crap, just explains why things went wrong and how they were turned round in a really pleasant style.

Now I want to find a copy of his autobiography - wars and shadows.

:bow

Pity he only limited his talks to England and only a few at that?
If you enjoy military history, and not already read them... you would enjoy Antony Beevor's 'Stalingrad' and 'Berlin' Top Class.

Hi all,
I'm a 749 and Multistrada rider who has been lurking around looking for a battlefield tour (thats not too muddy!) I could maybe crash when i found this thread.
As a member of The Friends of the Lincoln Tank i can say the group are organising an evening of talks in May by Richard Holmes and Gordon Corrigan at a venue in lincoln. I'm not sure when the tickets will be going on sale or what price they will be but if anyone wants any info let me know, or if anyone can stand having a red bike along for a trip to the battlefields let me know also.:beerjug:

Ride safe people,:thumb2
