bigcc racing engine ???
I raced a 1977 RD400 Yam during the 87,88,89 seasons in the Ultimate Street-Bike Challenge. Got it into the finals in 89.
Best time was 11.74 seconds / 113 mph standing quarter. Placed 6th overall with third fastest time. (Knocked out in the eliminators by a guy who's bike detonated as he crossed the line about a foot in front of me)
Mine was the only privateer bike in the top ten and also the only fully street legal 'except for the silencers' which was the supposed class we were in.
Mods were:
Standard frame stretched by 14 1/2 inches.
Standard forks.
Spoked wheels, with wide rear rim and 130/70 Michelin High-sport tyre.
Standard fuel tank (needed at least 1/4 full to make a run, otherwise fuel washed back behind the tap).
Lockup struts on rear.
Tuning by Dick Sullivan (world record holder in 125, 250, 350 + 350 sidecar Sprint).
YPVS pistons.
Barrels turned round. 41mm mikuni carbs sticking out the front.
Hand made expansion pipes. attached to back of engine and straight through frame, high level just below the seat.
With different sprockets and a longer distance it would have easily topped 150+ mph
Wish I could remember where I put the photos
