Just bought a cheap garmin nuvi 250 for the prettier half. Im very impressed for 166 euro.

I had to replace the car cigarette lighter (it never worked), so i could power up the nuvi. Did that no probs, cigarette lighter now works.

My problem is.....everytime i stick the power adapter in the lighter, it blows the 1amp fuse inside the garmin auto adapter.

Off away this weekend and i need to get it sorted, anybody any ideas

Cigarette lighter works fine, does it make a difference which wire goes where on the lighter, theres only 2!!!

if it aint that, probably a duff adapter. Strange thing is the red light on the adapter came on for a second or 2 when i first put it in, after then, nothin!

At this rate i will running the nuvi till the battery goes, then running the zumo till the battery goes and charging them both up at the hotel, if i make it

Positive is the centre contact, and it matters a lot

i'm thinking it doesn't make a difference to the ciggy lighter, a simple device, but it would to the nuvi.

Spot on there Cookie.

Reverse the wires on the cigarette lighter Matt then try the Nuvi again. All being well that will do the trick.

Just reversed the wires and the cig lighter works

Not tried with the adapter yet, gotta find another 1amp fuse and untwist my neck from being upside under my dashboard and my feet out of the sunroof

Will know in 10 minutes or so

Update.

The problem was of my own making

It looks like i had originally wired up the cig lighter wrong, even though it worked! Now ive reversed the wires, plugged in the nuvi and nothing!! But there is still continuity at the fuse, so it looks like i blew the adapter when i originally plugged it in!

Problem solved, adapter buggered

Lucky its new and under guarentee
