I want a thermometer with the following non-negotiable properties:

  • Digital
  • Backlit
  • Remote sensor. Where I live it will show 50C whenever the sun comes out.

In addition it would be nice if

  • Runs on external 12V. I can, if I need to, replace a battery
  • Fronst warning light

Obvoulsy, not too big as I want to fit it on the bike. Any suggestions?

You may find THIS helpfull (if you have got a Maplins)

The all new 2008 Version available HERE

Except that is it isn't even splash-proof I would guess.

As my programming abilities are far better than my soldering ones, I will have to write a letter to Wunderlich, to Touratec and all the others suggesting they make one. No fancy stuff - just a digital thermometer (with big, friendly digits).

A properly made bike thermometer would be a obvious thing to add to any bike, me thinks.

hein gericke do a digital thermometer for about £7 which sticks to instrument panel by velcro.....check website...not backlit, not remote sensor, altho' internal battery....so great unless you really want to over engineer things:augie
www.hein-gericke.co.uk....or locally??

What do you think a thermometer without remote sensor will show after one hour in the Tuscan sun?

Whatever it will show it will have no interesting relationship to the temperature of the air.

Also, my experience is that on the dash of the GS, becuase the air from the oil cooler flows by, is much higher than the "outside" temperature. This is of great interest as I climb the mountains in the winter.

Adding a volt-meter and a clock, and a button for selecting what to show, a dutton to "dim" the light, and so on, that would be over engineering.

I just want a thermometer that I can see also during night riding, designed for use on my bike. What am I missing

Hang a piece of seaweed above the speedo.

My gran swore by it.

if it was wet it was raining...........
if it was dry it wasn't.........
if it was white,it was cold.....

you get the picture ? :D

I use the more modern method. Drip on the end of the nose.

If there is no drip = it's warm.

If there is a drip = it's cold.

If the drip is frozen = it's very cold.

How did we ever manage without a thermometer on the bike.

Got one on my 11GS Adv and it shows not just the temperature but, volts generated and amps drawn.

It is over 40*C outside :spitfire so; the bike is parked up and I am inside next to the AC unit. Luvvly feeling.

Good job you have one fitted, or you'd never know when it's hot. .

Visit www.kisatech.com and look at the 'Chargeguard'.

I think you mean http://www.kisantech.com but it sure ain't no bargain.

As it says on the website :
"After using the chargeGuard for a while now, I wonder how I ever got along with out it"

Perhaps he's never seen Neil's nose?

I've talked to one who has one, and it is grossly over engineered.

He says that to "help you", whenever there is a change in the volt level, the meter will automatically change into showing the voltage. This means that every time you flick on a pair of HELLA, you'll have to press a button to get back the temperature.

He said he had thrown it away after a while.

I just want a well designed thermometer :rob
