Anyone put a thermometer on their steed to warn of ice on the roads etc

Steptoe is a big advocate of outside thermometers on bikes, he'll sort you out;)

Sorted Carcraft £5
long lead on sensor so can be mounted on forks near Abs sensor to give near as pos road temp and a built in sensor for normal air temp.
At least 2degree difference from road to air

Is it waterproof?

probably not but these things usually start working again when they dry out. too cold to rain at the mo

At 0 degC ambiant the wind chill for 70MPH is probably -25C
you may need to move it out of the breeze!.

Personally I would learn the craft well before relying on instrumentation. Be careful of shaded & treed areas which are more prone to freezing ( & staying frozen) even when the temperature gradient shows greater than 2 deg... A close eye on the "change" of the road surface has kept me safe up to now. A quick check on the local weather conditions prior to the ride will alert you to problems. All obvious stuff really....:nenau

PS. Don't waste your money on thermometers of any kind, you'll find yourself on your backside before you know it...;)
