They had about 3 or 4 minutes before being challenged by a passer by. Apparently they were defeated by my Shad scooter lock. It’s possibly this lock was the best £70 I’ve ever spent on bike equipment.

Wouldn’t you love just to happen along when someone is having a go at your bike. Good news for you. JJH

Even better
a passing motorist also jumped in and got a foto of the face of one of the thieves. He then went to the police with it , who said they knew who it was.
incidentally, it was parked about 5 metres away from a lamppost with a camera on it.
by the time I got through to the police on 101 they already had more info than me due to the motorist and other folk ringing it in.

Don’t suppose they’ll do anything. Sadly, other priorities and insufficient resources.

Glad to see the general public doing good things. Rather than stand round filming it.

Local to us, Police crime goes by unchecked in the main, however - if you need 6 police to attend a local field days, or come along to your school and tell you all about the history of policing there are lots of them available. Our local FB page for the police if rammed daily with the police integrating with the community, rarely is there any photos or reports of them actually dealing with crime. I think I must have missed the update that Police = crimefighters is no longer on the job description.

Exactly the same in our neck of the woods. Loads of pics uploaded by the local plod on FB enjoying a coffee and cake whilst "on the beat" or organising community "workshops", whilst folks in the area are suffering from break ins, anti social behaviour, vehicle crime etc. etc.. because of no Police presence in the area, mainly after dark. The local, law abiding, tax paying community now openly commenting and taking the piss out of the police's social media posts....so much so that the local waste of public money Police commissioner called a public meeting. He got so much flak he stalked off before the end in a huff.....twat.

This resulted in a social media statement from the Deputy Chief Inspector saying that the police in the area are now going to focus on the issues raised at the meeting.......which is exactly what they should have been doing anyway!
