Come end of April, my personal items are packed, Harley glide crated and myself on the way to the airport on final exit out of Saudi Arabia, a change of lifestyle awaits. Having reached 60yrs old, company declares me not fit-for-purpose so with severance pay in the bank after 16 years here, off I run.

Trying to determine the shipping (crated) weight of a 2010 FLHTCU. Shop form says 690kgs for an FLHTCU but, brochures say bike weighs around 386.5kgs which means the steel pallet is 303.5kgs; Wow! Because I am air freighting it to Manchester, that is staggering.
Anybody got an idea?

The last time seriously riding in the UK was 1992. So when back home I need to seek new friends in the Cheshire area. I would not say my camping and rallying days are over (well, maybe winter), but, I do need to get out and put some miles (or kilometres as the speedo shows) on it when I get it registered. It is an HDI model.

It will be time to subscribe to this forum as I also have a 1150GSA in the garage (still unregistered) which I shipped back 5 years ago. Just hope to God it is a good summer and nobody phones me up about a job somewhere across the waters.

Is there a list of bike clubs in the North West somewhere on the web or shall I just Google?

I'm going to burn in hell for suggesting this.....but "Harley Owners Group" sounds perfect for your needs...... as "social/riding" club sort of affair.....and, of course, you're the perfect age to join....................:D

Only after your eyeballs have been plucked out by ravens for daring to suggest such a thing...

You might have a point though :D

I shipped a couple of Evo softails from Canada to the UK a few years back and still have the metal pallets. They must weigh about 100kgs but I built wooden frames around mine as extra security and I could put all by bags, etc in them with the bikes. It depends how they do it now but the dealer weight could well be correct!

The bikes looks has been partially ruined by riding through sand storms so rain may help give it a polish when it is back in UK. It will cost me £2,000 to air freight back to Man airport by cargo flight. Another high charge by the dealer for the pallet.
