I've got a two night pass, and will be away on the bike in a couple of weeks, so thought about checking out the Peak District. Can anyone recommend some decent pubs with rooms, and secure parking for the bikes, and also some half decent places worth visiting on the bike (no offroading though as there will be a couple of sportbikes in the group:blast)?

Nutty,
As JB says, there's the Staffs do in 2 weeks. Phils Bimble is an epic run on some beautiful roads. If you can not make that weekend, with a little notice am more than happy to show you a good few roads:thumby:

Cheers JB, but we're not away until the 26th, for two nights. My mate is now saying he wants to stay in the Dales, and do the Hardknott Pass and Lake District as well. All that in two and a half days.:comfort I'm trying to talk him into the Peak, as I think it will be less manic.

Thanks Andrew, if we end up coming to the Peak at the end of the month, I'll PM you.:thumb

Dales is better:D

Trouble with Peaks is that it can get overcrowded and a lot of the main routes are 50mph and heavily Policed at weekends

However there are some cracking smaller raods, but you have to know where to find them;)

Good, but not my favourite riding area, with a major UK city on each corner of the National Park (Manchester/Nottingham/Birmingham/Sheffield)

The Dales are are much bigger and more remote:thumb

+1 :thumb

Got a mate who lives in the peaks, hard to get much clear road most of the year.

Dales are a better bet, and there are some good flowing roads for your power ranger buddies

JB's hit the nail on the head Rasher, surprised your mate doesn't know some good roads

I was out on Sunday and despite having lived up here for 20 years now I still got myself lost and discovered some new bits.

Oh, and plenty of fast roads that aren't busy or 50 limits, trust me :)

Also, some of the best off-roading in England :bounce1

He does, but the area is generally busier, I play on the unclassified roads near me and they are deserted compared to the A and B roads, but I would not be popular if taking sportsbike riders down them.

When we have been out and about in the area you get the feeling your riding is based on avoiding the traffic rather than just riding the best roads.

The Dales I have always found far less congested, although given a couple of spare nights I would probably head for the Lakes / Scottish borders staying around Penrith - and get there via the Dales

You're right, 100% bang on

I've always found the Peaks, busy and not in the same class as the roads in the Dales, the North Pennines or Scottish Borders

It's manic in the Peaks, with walkers/cyclists/climbers/bikers/sunday drivers

I don't disagree with what your saying about the Yorkshire dales, defo a bigger area and generally less congested, but it's all relative, the Peaks and Derbyshire Dales are still beautiful areas with some great roads and, as I said, probably some of the best off roading in England.

I'll still say that if you know where to go (or get lost like I did on Sunday :)) you can easily find quiet roads, from those suitable for sports bikes to nadgery old lanes that are great on a GS :)

Come down/up to the Peaks and I'll show you around, you can then return the favour and I'll come up to Gods own country for a guided tour :thumb2

Now booked two nights in Flouch, at the top of the Peak, so will go from there to the Dales on the Saturday (the quickest way possible:D), and have a day riding the Dales. Then on the Sunday will ride down through the Peak before going home via the Cotswolds.:beerjug:

If anyone recommends any decent roads or places to see while we're there, it would be appreciated.:thumb

Fingers crossed for some decent weather this weekend.:comfort:thumb

Anyone have some decent roads they know of, worth riding?

+1 :thumb

What he says :nod

But then we're biased :blast

Enjoy ;)

Yep, we're up early Saturday then going to the Black Sheep Brewery and Wensleydale Creamery (there's a pattern here:D), before heading back down through the Dales in the afternoon.:JB

Where can we get a decent cream tea, or bit of cake somewhere near Horton in Ribblesdale/ Settle/ Rylstone?

I expect JB to come back on this one Nutty. He knows every cream tea and ice cream parlour in the northern hemisphere :D

He is the iconic figure of good food, cakes and ice cream .... :JB

The Naked man café in Settle is a nice little spot, immaculately clean, nice monster cream buns, ace butties, pies etc!! you can park bang opposite.

I rode the Helmsley "tt" last week for the first time, its higher on the map than where you are but 18 miles of twisties from Helmsley to Stokesley was rather good.

Cheeky bugger, but true

There's a good farmhouse tea room at Selset, between Ribblehead and Horton

Selset is a collection of houses, arranged like a chicane and one on the left does farmhouse teas (sign in garden) - all homemade and very good

Or plenty in Settle as SiRich says

But the Selset one is quaint and very Yorkshire....................if you want the real 'Nora Batty' front parlour experience
