Hi all

I have an 03 1150gs, its done 50,000 miles and has run like a dream since ive had it. I was out for a ride and getting along nicely on one of my favourite roads. This is when a bit of strangeness happened. Accelerating quite hard through the gears i snicked it into sixth and the revs shot up. I imediatelythought clutch problems. My question is this, wht is it only slipping in sixth?. Through the rest of the gears its as smooth as a BMW can be. Thought of a contaminated clutch plate but ive lost no fluids. The reason im asking i wondered if it was something simple before i start stripping

Thanks GSGus:cool:

remove clutch slave cylinder and your probably find there is a load of goo in there which is travelling down the pushrod to the clutch plates. If like me you have no fluids missing it is hopefully the seal to the rear of the pushrod tunnel. This can easily be replaced. If you clean all the goo out and leave the slave cylinder out you can determine if seal is leaking as there will be oil there the next day.

My clutch plates which would slip very easy over 3k revs are now back to normal.

hope this helps

good luck

Clutch slip nearly always manifests itself in higher gears first - more torque through the clutch.

Keep us posted with what you find - good luck :thumb2

What kid of road were you going down to get her into 6th?

I've only used it on the motorway, and even then I'm doing over 70...

Thanks for the replies chaps

Im going to have a look at the clutch slave cylinder first before i go too deep into the motor. I will keep you posted

Well my favoutite road is a nice long sweeping bended beuty. As long as theres not many cars about i can go along nice and swift. It is a very well kept secret and if i told you where, i would have to kill you:P
