Does anyone know what may be the cause of an error that pops up on my 2610 quite frequently.

While riding along the unit will (approximately 2 or 3 times during a 200 mile run) give three short sharp beeps through the ear plugs. Some times the unit will then place a small White arrow on the screen and the map will stop moving until I press the Page button.

The Sun

Could be the sun on the inferred bit try putting a bit of tape over it and see if it stops doing it

Is it the old "sunlight confusing the remote control" problem? The arrow appears when you press the directional buttons, and the map stops moving as it is now centred around the arrow.

Try taping over the IR sensor.

I wander if it's the Sun on the IR window... I'll try putting some tape over it :thumb :D

Cheers, I did see the IR window problem on the other post about changing screens and wandered if it could be the same.... I'll let you know

It's the sun reflecting off the IR and black electrical tape works. Too bad that you have to "fix" an expensive GPS with electrical tape. There should be a way to turn the IR off - much the same way that you can turn off the touch screen.

Hi Paul:

I've never encountered any such error with my 2650 GPSR (same software, pretty much, as the 2610). Nor have I ever encountered any problem with sunlight causing the GPSR to do something I don't want it to do. I have occasionally found that in very bright sunlight, the remote control does not work too well (might be that it gets overpowered by the sunlight).

I wish I could be of more help. I'm not really sure if the problems you are having are necessarily related to the IR component of the GPSR. It could be something else entirely, perhaps a glitch in the cartographic database.

Hi Michael,

Could it be that the way you have the remote fitted to your bike (right in front of the IR window) provides just enough shade to prevent this problem from happening? If other people are riding round without anything near their IR window, then it's possible that they could have problems, but you, with your set up, would not?

Michael,

Im certaintly having random screen changes with my 2610 and it seems from this thread that the sun may be causing such problems. I haven't tried tape yet.
