Quick question on cleaning the throttle bodies. I plant to remove and repaint mine on my 2017 1200 LC. So thought I might as well give them a clean whilst they’re off. Is there any harm in gently manually moving the butterfly valve and do they need “re setting” once re-installed, or does the bike just sort itself out (if so, how?) Tia

Pretty sure that's not advised. Though I'd do it gently.
Squirt some of that intake solvent cleaner on them and you'll be good.

If its anything like most car throttle bodies, the gears inside are plastic and delicate.

I had to clean the throttle bodies occasionally on my sons 1.4 VW Polo as it didn't have an air bypass circuit around the butterfly so carbon and dirt build up at the butterfly throat walls would cause it to idle badly and stall, not sure if the 1200/1250 liquid cooled is the same.

I would just use solvent and a soft toothbrush but not disturb the butterfly plate position.

How many mile has the bike done .surely they don’t need doing yet.

I'd leave well alone unless there's much evidence of deposits in the body. If you do need to disturb then there is a TPS reset procedure that can be done without a GS911 or Motoscan - it's been mentioned on here a few times so a search should find it. Alternatively beg/borrow/steal a GS911 or Motoscan.

Only 18k so they may well not need doing, but they’re coming off anyway for re painting, it’s flaking and corroding underneath. So it was just a “if needed” question

They need re painting, old paint is flaking badly, and the body is corroding slightly. Unless I can paint in situ, but I doubt I’d be able to do a good enough job like that.

I wouldn’t bother repainting them. Once the paint has been removed and they’ve been cleaned up, I would just give them a coating of ACF50 or XCP clear coat

Too late😉 all done and worked out fine. Internals were almost spotless, so didn’t bother cleaning. Refitted, opened and closed the throttle a couple of times with the ignition on to re-set (just in case) and bike is running and idling as smoothly as before🙂
